Mediaset: Milan, Juventus and Inter all battling for Genoa forward

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan have held an interest in Albert Gudmundsson for some time now. However, reports suggest that Juventus and Inter are also interested in the Icelandic forward, which may push the Rossoneri to act sooner than they may have planned to.

There are historical ties that link Gudmundsson to Milan. His great-grandfather, whom he shares a name with, once played for Milan, and in a previous interview, he admitted the desire to emulate his career.

“My great-grandfather played at a high level, and of course, I would like to reach those heights. Ever since I was a child I dreamed of playing in a ‘top’ team to fight for titles and win the Champions League.”

However, the striker might not emulate that dream with the Rossoneri. SportMediaset (via MilanNews) reports that alongside the Diavolo, Juventus and Inter admire his qualities.

Genoa’s valuation of €20million is set to deter any possibility of a move in January, and given he has eight goals in 18 appearances, it is understandable why the Grifone are unwilling to part with him just yet.

  1. He can go to Inter for all I care. We need a serious +20goal striker if we want to compete. If really pushed Theo can give us those sort of figures menti9ned in the article as a defender.

  2. Gudmundsson isn’t a striker.

He’s first and foremen a #10 who is best playing off a striker, even a deepish second striker. He can play off the wing too but he’s not a player who will provide width or speed for a quick break. He plays a narrow wing.

He needs that bit of space to work his craft. He’s a very good player who has probably been misused out of necessity for much of the season due to Retegui’s injury issues.

He’s an extremely similar style of player to Dybala and shares very similar physical and technical characteristics. He’s not reached Dybala’s level, obviously, but I don’t see him as being that far behind.

I doubt he starts in the Plan A side for Milan. He doesn’t suit the way we play. But he’d be great off the bench adding that central attacking dynamic, with genuine technical quality and creativity, that we do not have.
