Milan mayor confirms fate of San Siro will be decided in June – the latest

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan have made great progress with their stadium project on San Donato and as a result, the Milan mayor Beppe Sala is pushing the San Siro renovation hard. The fate of the stadium will be decided in June, he has confirmed.

Milan, Inter, Sala and WeBuild recently had a meeting to discuss the feasibility of the San Siro renovation project. While the Rossoneri are focused on San Donato, convinced that they will succeed on that front, they don’t intend to close any doors at this stage.

A period of reflection awaits, after which Milan and Inter will present their needs for the new San Siro. Then, WeBuild will study the feasibility of these demands before presenting their findings in June. That’s why, as cited by Gazzetta Dello Sport (see photo below), Sala has named this as the deadline.

“The moment of truth will be in June. How long would it take in total? It’s just my feeling, but I’d say a couple of years. I don’t expect teams to slow down their alternative projects,” he stated.

In case the San Siro renovation is feasible, then the idea is also to transfer the ownership of the stadium to the clubs from the council, in one way or another. This is a necessary incentive for the clubs to even consider the project.

  1. Why didn’t you report that Sala is ready to sell San Siro to Milan and Inter? It’s been reported on every blog except here. Or did I miss it?🤔

It’s been reported that both clubs will now come forward with their requests after Sala showed willingness to sell San Siro.
