MN: Cardinale wants Ibrahimovic back at Milan with many roles possible

By Isak Möller -

Gerry Cardinale is not only working on a new stadium for AC Milan, but also on bringing back Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the club. The American is ready to discuss various possible roles with the Swede, a report claims.

Ibrahimovic retired at the end of last season and there have been many rumours regarding his future. The 42-year-old has made it clear that he needs time to decide but in the meantime, Milan have already had two meetings with him.

According to MilanNews, Cardinale wants Ibrahimovic back at the club and is open to discussing the appropriate role with the Swede. New meetings are expected in the coming weeks and it remains to be seen if common ground can be found.

It’s clear that a lot depends on Ibrahimovic, who will decide the possible return to Milan and also which role he will have within the club. Of course, Cardinale and Furlani probably have a good idea of what the role could be already.

  1. With one punch Cardinale wants to kill many flies.

He released Maldini and Massara because they have old way players handling, to bring only 1, Zlatan, who will probably follow management rules and advices.

    1. D main question u should always as is that who owns d club. Maldini or cardinale?

Shit happens but when. Ur boss is talking u don’t need to go against hes wish but just give advice and if he says NO u don’t have choice but to follow orders.

  2. Cardinale is reimagining the roles within a club and I believe he is on the right track. He has given the manager more input towards recruiting, given the recruiter more input over contracts, and given the technical director more input on business decisions. Now, at the other end of things, he wants to create a new role that will takeover the off-field player management from the manager. I think many teams will follow this shift that is occurring at Milan.

But Americans do the whole ‘Corporate’ thing the best. Every dollar is accounted for, every process is documented, and every decision follows a plan. It’s not easy to change like Milan has changed since Elliott first took over.

Anyways, I think Milan fans have a lot to look forward to and Ibra would be perfect for this.

  3. I believe he’s on the right track now, beginning to grasp the importance of nurturing the mentality for current Milan players, who have been missing the sense of family from the legends for a decade. However, I can’t help but express my disappointment in the management for the way they handled Maldini’s departure. While they had their rights, Maldini remains an icon and a legend for Milan.

  4. Ibra will be best taking a year off to go for courses. Rejoin Milan in 2024 as assistant coach or assistant technical director.
