MN: A Derby della Madonnina is brewing off the pitch as Inter and Milan seek a striker

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan and Inter are currently preparing to do battle on the pitch as the Derby della Madonnina takes place this Saturday in Serie A.

As highlighted by Milan News, there is a battle between the two sides brewing in the transfer market too.

Coming into the final stages of the transfer window in the summer, both teams needed a striker or two and neither got what you would call long-term solutions. Inter signed Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez, whilst Milan were forced into a last-minute signing of Luka Jovic for depth.

They are both going to be looking at strikers again very soon and they could both find themselves trying to sign Jonathan David from Lille.

He was expected to move in the summer but it did not materialise. A deal could potentially cost €50-60m, but with his deal running out in 2025, there is scope for that price to come down in the summer of 2024.

  1. My opinion is that Milan has a better chance for David than Inter, Milan does not have financial problems like Inter, they would have to sell first so that they can bring him, Milan have been looking at him for 2 years, and in Milan he would be the first choice and in Inter next to Lautar and Thuram it’s hard that he could be the first attacker and then Milan’s relationship with Lille and perhaps the main thing is that we have Moncada, who is an expert for younger players

    1. I would prefer us spending this much on Scalvini rather than him. IK he is good, but I don’t think he is a Giroud/Ibra type player that Pioli prefers. There are other options who would be cheaper than him and would be the ideal striker we are looking for.

      1. Well, he is not a tall type of striker, but Giroud is playing the last season under his contract, Jović is on loan, the question is whether he will get a permanent contract, if he doesn’t, Milan may be without two strikers, I would like David to come, Scalvini is good because probably Kjaer and Caldara will not get a new contract, but he hasone in Ajax 17 years old Jorrel Hato CB would like to see him in Milan because I really think that in 2-3 years that kid will be a beast, David, Ekitike, Scalvini i Hato molit cu se da dvojica dodju sa ovoga spiska 😂

        1. Ohh I know Hato, someone added his clips on my discord server. He would be perfect alongside Thiaw. I would prefer Scalvini because it would be good to have an Italian starter in the team.

          1. I just looked again, Scalvini is the starter in Italy, fifth game for the national team and standard in Atalanta, at only 19 years old, even when you add to that his height of 195 cm and Thiaw is two years older than him and they are of similar height, CB tandem for next 10 years

          2. Both are possible if Mike is sold for 60-80m:

            Departures (conservative estimates):
            Mike – 60m
            Tomori – 30m
CDK – 28m (actual figure if option is taken)
            Subtotal – 118m

            Usual transfer funds – 50m
            Total – 168m

            Arrivals:
            Mamardashvili – 25m
            Scalvini – 60m
David (or another striker) – 40m
            New DM – 30m

Total – 155m, 13m saved for a special project, like some 18 y/o future talent.

Colombo returns as no. 2 or no. 3 striker (depending on how Jovic does), so we’d have new ST, Colombo and Jovic.

Promote a CB (Simici) from the primavera for the expiring Kjaer; promote a LB (Bertesaghi or Bozzolan) from the primavera to cover for Theo.

            And that’s our squad 2024-25.

          3. Or even take that extra 13m and add it to the striker fund for a better chance at getting what we need. So up to 53m (let’s say 50m for a nice round number), for a striker.

        2. Milan signed jovic for free on a 1 season long contract with the option to extend with a further 3 years so we do in fact own the serbian player.

  2. Jonathan David isn’t Giroud’s or Ibrahimovic’s style. So i don’t think Pioli approve this idea, because didn’t fit with his need for now. If we want striker like Jonathan David style, we ought to sign Bellotti at free transfer last season.

The best option for striker in our Radar are Benjamin Sesko & Gianluca Scamacca. I hope we will sign one of them next season.

    1. I would have brought Benjamin first, but in that story the biggest problem is his club Leipzig because they are tough negotiators, this summer they earned around 240 million euros from the sale. Benjamin has a contract until 2028, I don’t believe they would even enter into negotiations for less than 60 million

  3. Transfer market just closed few weeks ago and ppl here already want club to buy their dream player. Calm down guys, save your energy next summer. Lets focus on ACM match derby
