MN: Milan’s current UEFA ranking and what it means for the 2024-25 Champions League draw

By Oliver Fisher -

The UEFA ranking has once again updated after the two Champions League semi-final first legs, and the picture is beginning to look more clear regarding where AC Milan will fit into the draw for next season.

As MilanNews writes, what is certain is that Milan will begin the 2024-25 season in 29th place in the UEFA club coefficient ranking, which means they are hovering between the second and third pots ahead of the next Champions League.

We explained all the changes to the format in a feature, but the main alteration is the shift away from the current format’s group stage system. The present Champions League group stage includes 32 participants divided into eight groups of four.

From the 2024-25 season, 36 clubs will participate in the Champions League league phase (former group stage), giving four more sides entry into a single league competition with one big table.

Among the teams ahead of the Rossoneri in the club ranking are Chelsea, Manchester United, Sevilla, Villarreal, Napoli, Porto, Atalanta, West Ham, Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt, but they are set to miss out on the UCL. Meanwhile, Benfica, Club Brugge and Rangers would be expected to qualify through the play-offs.

That means that 10 teams ahead of Milan are currently on course to miss out, which means Milan would be the 19th-highest team in the draw. They could rise if further teams miss out or there are some shocks in the play-offs.

which means that the ranking is as follows:

1. Manchester City (England) 148,000

  1. We would have been in much better shape had Pioli taken us to the EL final. Given our luck we will be in pot 3 again and facing the possibility of another group of death again. Oh well. The coefficient will keep on rising as long as we keep participating in the CL and the deeper wr go in that the better. In another season or to we should be in pot 2.

    1. No more groups, I think designed the stage to be more balanced by using club coefficient instead of league standings. I don’t fully understand how the new cl works but it was designed to avoid “groups of death” got to make sure the big clubs have the easiest path to the round of 16.

  2. We don’t really care about pots anymore because in the new format we’ll play against 2 teams from pot 1, 2 from pot 2 etc, 8 matchs in total.
    We are pot 2 ? 3 ? Same system.

    1. Unclear yet. If there are 36 teams and divided in 6 groups there will be 6 teams per group. With home and away matches there will be 10 games per team. The best two, I. E 12 teams and the 4 best thirds will go to the groups of 16.
