Official: AC Milan vs. Napoli starting XIs – one change from Frosinone game

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has made one change to the starting line-up for the game against Napoli compared to the side that beat Frosinone last weekend.

The absentees for the game include Tommaso Pobega, Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu who are injured, Tijjani Reijnders who is suspended and Samuel Chukwueze who will play in the African Cup of Nations final tonight.

Pioli has opted to field a back four of Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Matteo Gabbia and Theo Hernandez once again in front of the goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

With Reijnders out, the Milan boss has named Ismael Bennacer in the starting line-up again alongside Yacine Adli as the double pivot.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will act as the advanced midfielder with Christian Pulisic on his right and Rafael Leao on the opposite flank. Olivier Giroud will lead the line.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Gabbia, Hernandez; Adli, Bennacer; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.

Bench: Sportiello, Mirante, Jovic, Okafor, Terracciano, Florenzi, Jimenez, Musah, Eletu, Simic.

  1. If I were to the CEO of AC Milan and I see Mr. Pioli playing the pairing of Gabbia and Kjear since the arrival of the former without consideration for the ever improving Simic to continue is development before fitness of the first team Central Defenders and with the emergency still at large and only consider another player only if there’s injury and Europa League soon to resume which will arrive with another series of injuries if same Pioli policy should continue then I conclude that Pioli is the culprit causing all the injuries after all and this evidently showed that he’s not one to consider for the future moving forward.

  3. Id like to see Musah beside Adli with Bennacer as AM.
RLC has been horrible apart from his goals.
I also don’t see why we can’t give okafor a start, he has come on and played RW in recent weeks, Pulisic seems a bit off. We need to keep players motivated and opponents on their toes

I’m worried about Kjaer tonight, its a pity Simic has been given more minutes to develop.

On the plus side, its fantastic to see Eletu in the squad, a proper quality DM in the making

    1. That’s why AC Milan needs a youth oriented Manager who is a tactical genius and flexible in his approaches to every match and who is has the balls to give valuable minutes to every Primavera players with humongous potential capable of breaking into the first team like Simic, Jimenez, Eletu, Cuenca and soon on

  4. Gasperini out here teaching Pioli how to bring out the best in young players and how to be a tactical genius. Atlanta will end up selling CDK for 100M and y’all Pioli lovers will start crying. I called it a long time ago. CDK is a good player. Maldini knew what he saw when he was pushing so hard for that kid. The problem is still Pioli. Since 2019. Y’all still haven’t figured out that all Pioli could be is a long ball coach. Nothing else. The guy is the most clueless coach I’ve ever ever seen. Terrible coach.

  5. Very poor game and poor performance by Milan
Save for the beautiful goal from Leao/Theo
Napoli had been the better team before it.

RLC i really don’t know what be was doing in first 15 mins, just kept giving Napoli the ball.
Hope Calabria is ok. He has been our secret weapon v Napoli.
Hopefully we are better after the break
