Papin tells Milan how to beat PSG and defends Pioli: “They can get the result”

By Euan Burns -

Former Ballon d’Or winner Jean-Pierre Papin has explained that AC Milan do have what it takes to get the win they need against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League tomorrow night.

Speaking during an interview with Radio Anch’io Sport (via Radio Rossonera), Papin decided to back Stefano Pioli’s side despite the fact that they are the underdogs at the San Siro given their poor form.

The former Milan star explained that whilst PSG are an incredibly talented side that has already beaten the Rossoneri this season, there are ways to get at Luis Enrique’s side.

Paris Saint-Germain is a very strong team, they have a great coach and very strong players. In Paris Milan lost 3-0 because they decided they wanted to play in a certain way, something has to change tomorrow, if they play the same way as the first leg it is very difficult to get a result. PSG also has some weaknesses, you have to be careful with Mbappé and Dembélé who are very fast,” Papin began.

“Without the real Leao, it becomes difficult, he is no longer the player he was last year, but Milan have players capable of beating PSG. Tomorrow will be a battle, they are back to last year’s PSG with a good organisation, but in the Champions League they have already conceded 4 goals from Newcastle: if Milan play aggressively, they can get a result.”

Papin was also asked about the future of Pioli, who seems to be under increasing pressure given Milan have fallen away slightly in the Serie A title race and progression in the Champions League looks unlikely at this stage.

Papin does not agree with the idea that Pioli is the problem.

When a team isn’t doing well, the problem is always the coach. I don’t agree, you can’t be Italian champion two years earlier and be the poorest coach two years later. It’s the players who go on the field, not the coach. It’s difficult for me to speak badly of Pioli, I like him as a coach, he has done great things. It can’t always just be the coach’s fault, it’s the players who play,” he said.

  1. We played “AGGRESSIVELY” last time. Didn’t work out so hot. SO maybe let’s not do the same thing and expect a different result?
