Reports: Diaz and Gabbia to start for Milan against Juventus – the XI

By Isak Möller -

Stefano Pioli is expected to make a few changes to the starting XI for AC Milan’s clash against Juventus tomorrow, following the mid-week defeat to Chelsea. In fact, Matteo Gabbia and Brahim Diaz should start.

The Rossoneri struggled to impose themselves at the Stamford Bridge and will be looking for a confidence boost ahead of the return leg. Juventus will visit San Siro tomorrow and it should be an exciting clash, with a lot at stake for both sides.

According to Sky Italia and MilanNews, Gabbia is expected to play from the first minute and that means Pierre Kalulu will start on the right. Sergino Dest didn’t do particularly well against Chelsea and that change certainly makes sense.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu; Kalulu, Gabbia, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Krunic, Diaz, Leao; Giroud.

Another player that struggled against Chelsea was Charles De Ketelaere, who most likely will be snubbed/get rest tomorrow in favour of Brahim Diaz. The latter did do well off the bench last time out and he will have a point to prove.

    1. At this point I’m on the verge of giving up that Adli will have more that 10 minutes on the pitch in a single match for Milan. Unless Malick Thiaw and Vrancx are injured, in my opinion the opportunity presents itself for borh of them to now have minutes on the pitch for Milan.

        1. Clearly he hasn’t integrated very well with the current Milan system. Or something to do with his physical state, like Pioli said. Other than those, I can’t see any other reasons why he’s benched and left out on the UCL squad.

    2. The thing with Pioli is that he trusts his guys a lot and you need to do a lot to get a chance to get into his XI. (Of course unless there’s an injury crisis). But if you’re out, you’re completely out – happened to Romagnoli, Castillejo, Bakayoko.
Adli simply hasn’t gotten the opportunity but for Dest this isn’t good at all. Putting Gabbia in center and Kalulu on the right signals to me that Pioli has effectively given up on using Dest in any high stakes game.

  1. I think either CDK or Adli should start on the RW. We need more creativity on that position which Krunic cannot provide. There is too much pressure on Leao & CDK when we have nobody else to provide…

  2. Oh boy.
Gabbia vs Vlahovic nightmares coming back from last years away game vs Fiorentina .
Also Tatarusanu at GK had a horrible game when he fumbled an easy ball that gifted Viola their 1st goal and changed the whole game

  3. Please must krunic start from the right, every right side of Milan is dead because he not a winger is the coach not seeing this. That was why it was easy for Chelsea to mark leao out, because the right wing is dead. While not Rebic there please so our attack force can be very strong

  4. Wtf Pioli, stick with Dest for now. Gabbia is just an out of form Romagnoli.
That being said, why can’t Pioli feild CDK and Adli or CDK and Diaz or even Diaz and Adli??? Must it be Krunic?
Why is Pioli letting Adli’s potential rot on the bench?

    1. Because Pioli loves Krunic more than a son. Every manager has a soft spot for a mediocre player. Krunic and Diaz are Pioli’s ones.

    2. Maybe it’s not the right time to experiment if we have to face Juve. And Krunic, whether we like or not, is one of the most experienced player in terms of translating the Pioli’s strategies and games. And that’s important for him. Me personally also want to see CDK and Yaccine on the line up.

        1. In term of individual skill sets, Yaccine most probably is. In term tactical intelligence, moreover for the Pioli type of game, he’s not (yet). The kind of game that Pioli plays is quite specific, he and the players also, have said it over and over again.

      1. An idiot simply won’t bring us any Scudetto. It’s not like he got the player he really wanted and needed on the last window. So we can’t simply put all the blame to him.

        1. Ok. Explain to me his tactics in deploying weird late time changes. Or do you honestly this team trained properly on set pieces? Even corners are wasted. Look at how Chelsea used corner to score.

Instead if him, Pioli, spend time watching how Ancheloti deploy or use tactics, he spends his time watching Spalatti? What Spalatti achieved compared to Anchelotu?? C’mon. Look no farther than at Atlanta how the sell thier top players and still manage better

Emotions alone can’t make you stronger pal

          1. What is Pioli suppose to do on set pieces when none of his players , especially Bennacer and Tonali are capable of sending a cross that will go pass the 1st defender?
Pioli can set up the tactics but it’s up to the players to execute them. Maybe just maybe that some of the players that most of the fans wanna hype up are not as good as fans want them to be.
Look at Chelsea corners and how they were delivered, look at inter’s with Hakan, Roma with Pelegrini and then look at Bennacer and Tonali.
Pioli is just making lemonade with the lemons provided to him by management

          2. Who’s Ancheloti, Splatti, and Atlanta? Ancelotti, Spalletti and Atalanta. You got me lost interest. You can blame Pioli all you want if he’s given the kind of players that he really wants and needs. We all know that’s not the case. Yet he still brought Milan to the level no one could ever done in the last 12, yes TWELVE years.

Atalanta didn’t even qualify UCL last season. And still too early of the season to make a comparison

          3. What to with set pieces? Is that all you can say. Better go watch Amerucan football then

And whose Anchelotti? Is that side effect from taking Vax..I guess..lol

          4. You spelled all the names wrong bro. How long have you been a Milan, or football in general, fan?

For sure, set pieces are surely one of the weaknesses of Pioli’s Milan, even from last season. Is it costly? Yes. Is it too costly that it caused us a lost in Scudetto? No. There’s no such thing as a perfect coach in this world. Would you prefer we score all the set pieces yet do not win any championship? Well I guess not.

          5. You spelled all the names wrong bro. Check again, it’s embarrasing.

  5. From the starting line up., we know what the result of the match., defeat to Juventus or draw.,
    Let’s hope a piece miracle.,

  6. Gabbia vs Vlahovic can be a nightmare.
However, putting Kalulu on the right will give us enough cover.
Should go with a flat bennacer – tonali – Adli
    Rebic on the right
    Leao on the left
Giroud on the centre – Origi coming for final 10 minutes to do his magic

  7. I think gabbia is more mature than last season, he played well against chelsea.

One of Diaz / cdk also can play as RW to add speed & more creativity, krunic as AMC. It’s time to play rebic as striker, give giroud a rest, he play sucked in the last 2 games.

Pioli is little bit confuse to lost both alex & messias

    1. Pioli is not confused. He’s an idiot. Remember when he said he’s covered in right flank? No need to invest in RW? Here we go

  8. Benching Dear, is a nice idea. The main problem is Krunic. The offers nothing to the team. He shouldn’t be starting matches for us, rather he should be coming in as a sub when the match is already won. Our formation now should be
    Tata
    Theo—Gabbia—-Tomori——Kalulu
    Tonali———-Bennacer
    Leao——-Diaz——-Rebic
    Giroud
    Or
    Tata
    Theo……….. Gabbia ……Tomori……..kalulu
    Tonali………… Bennacer
    Leao……..CDK/ADIL……. Rebic
    ORIGI

  9. Pioli nên quay vòng người chơi để có sự tươi mới. Tonali, Tomori… đã quá tải. Không nên lãng phí người sau… Forza Milan.

  10. Wow, Everyone here is an expert, pioli is shit, and you guys are extraordinary! I don’t even want to laugh at our logics and break them, by your logic we should just throw adli anywhere in the pitch and expect he’ll shine! Some fans you guys are!

  11. For the love of god stop with this krunic love story. Krunic playing on the right is just crazy. Play either rebic or leao on the right. Leao will do just fine with his class and speed, maybe rebic on the right. Im no expert but please rebic on the right is plain and stupid. Play pobega as dm if anything. Have him cover the leaks in defense. We are leaking goals because of defense is always exposed. Yes diaz as am is a better option atm.
