Sportitalia: Ibra and Moncada want Conte but Furlani has another coach in mind

By Oliver Fisher -

Interesting updates continue to filter regarding who AC Milan might have as their head coach from the start of next season, and a report has claimed there is a difference of opinion within the management.

Sportitalia are reporting that Antonio Conte met in person for the second time with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who is pushing to appoint him on a three-year contract ahead of the 2023-24 season.

However, Conte accepted the second meeting out of respect for the president and while he did not decline the job, he took his time because he was not convinced and in a very polite manner he listened to what De Laurentiis had to say.

In the background there is the idea of returning to Milano. That is his main objective, and the priority seems to be coaching Milan given that Inter have Simone Inzaghi and are unlikely to sack him unless they have a collapse.

There has been no direct meeting with the Rossoneri though. Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are pushing for a future with Conte as per the source, but CEO Giorgio Furlani would have to be convinced.

He isntead is thinking of Thiago Motta for various reasons: the fact he is a young and exciting coach, the high salary Conte would want and the construction of the team. Conte’s priority is Milan, but everyone at the club must be united in agreement.

  1. Furlani with the banker mind, he shouldn’t make any decisions. Maybe there is a better coach than Conte, but getting someone because he is cheaper and will accept cheaper players is a sign you’re a banker and you shouldn’t make football decisions anywhere…

  2. I simply doesn’t want Conte any were near AC Milan. Sure he a good track record in Italy but come at a hefty price and will demand a huge amount of cash to invest and most likely would demand another revamp of the squad. Then there is the fact that Conte is as volatile as TNT and is bound to go off at any moment when things doesn’t go after his head and then we will have to start all over again in a year or two.
If money wasn’t a question which unfortunately is the actual reality we live under then we should be able to do far better than Conte and find a more progressive candidate.

    1. In football money is always an important issue, ask Inter’s Inzaghi, and Peppi of Man City, Arsenal, PSG and so on.
I believe Inter owe $800 million to the bank and growing every day?
We Milan supporters don’t want that! On the case of Furlani and selecting a replacement He is very intelligent. Conti is not the answer for Milan financial or otherwise.
We need someone committed and affordable and intelligent to win ” Motta and DeZerbi” they are the new breed of coaches that football world will seek. We are lucky to have Furlani that is why Cardinali chose him!

      1. Not really a big fan of his and not really sure i will call Furlani inteligent 😀 but I would nevertheless prefer Motta or someone else than Conte.
I’ll even keep Pioli instead of hiring Conte to be fair but yeah Motta and De Zerbi seems like good long term solutions but its not like they offer any guarantees either but I wouldn’t complain if one of them were to replace Pioli in the event he is sacked at the end of the season.

    1. Conte played 343 for most of Chelsea and I’m pretty sure the beginning on his inter or beginning of his juventus career. Milan would probably benefit from 343

  3. Conte only wants super expensives players with tons of experiences. He doesn’t give a flying fvck for players like Adli, Simic, Bartesaghi, Camarda, Musah, Romero, Kalulu, Thiaw, Pobega, Okafor, Gabbia, or any players who’s still young with lack of experiences. If he doesn’t get what he wants, he will threaten the club that he will leave.

Conte also plays 352 and that means players who doesn’t fit with his formation will be on the bench or got kicked out. Which means all the works that already build these last 4 years will be gone to dust cause Conte gonna start from zero again.

If Furlani choose Conte then he will be the d*mbest person in Milan. But i don’t expect much from him.

    1. Im generally not too fond about Furlani but to his credit he doesn’t want him according to the article but ibra and moncada does.

    2. Truth be told, this young team could use a couple of experienced players as an anchor and reference. This is what Maldini was trying to do.

  4. I really don’t want Conte. Too much drama and his last couple of teams ended up playing dull and uninspired football.
I’m not sold on Motta, either. This idea that because he has done well with a smaller budget, then he will automatically do more with more, is a rather simplistic way of hiring a coach. He might work out, but I wish we could get a coach who’s used to managing big teams with high expectations…….but NOT Conte.
I kind of wish Lazio would sack Sarri. I’d be curious to see what he could do for Milan.

    1. I’m with you there. I would not mind seeing Mancini as Milan. Experience with big teams, has one trophies……..I like this idea.

  5. Conte is overrated and can only do a decent job if he has world-class players. He had a far better squad against us in the UCL last season but how did that go? They were toothless. So basically he’s even worse than Pioli. How’s that an upgrade over what we now have?

  6. Conte is hungary for UCL Truimph and milan do so.
And he will do more than Ancelleto
Only Great Coach can lead milan into success.

  7. There is no way Redbird will agree to hire Conte. Why? It’s very simple: $$$$$. Conte has a HUGE ego and he will not come to Milan unless he is given a giant transfer budget to work with. That goes against the entire policy of Redbird and our Moneyball approach – so this seems like fantasy. I’m not even sure he’s the right coach for us anyways. DeZebri would be nice but doubt he leaves the riches of the EPL. So Motta seems like the most logical choice provided a clubs with more $$$ outside of Italy doesn’t get him first.

  8. Motta is more of a gamble for sure, given Conte’s experience. But Motta just seems like a better fit with out project if we’re trying to build a team with young promising players. Conte would ask for established signings that won’t come cheap.

Then of course we’d have to pay him top dollar on top of it. So he’d be making more than Leao. And given the Growth Decree elimination, we wouldn’t afford Top Foreign talent anyway…

So I just don’t see how Conte works. Help me out here.

  9. No need young & exciting future for A Head Coach, because Head Coach has no transfer value.

I think Conte or De Zerbi are okay. But Ignazio Abate of Primavera deserves his chance too. I Will go for Ignazio Abate, because he know so much about our academy Players, and we already have exciting prospects from academy. And Abate is Primavera Product too, something additional value in him for the club’s culture, i think ?

  10. Isn’t there any good coach that have any relation in the past with Milan. I believe, that what Milan are. They have Milan soul and know how Milan are. Or, why not make abate for main team coach?

  11. Well, Remember! Red bird Capital is also a pathner who has Stake in Liverpool!

The might as well want to pull the same trick Liverpool used in acquiring Jurgen Klopp! With the approach of liverpool not spending much in transfer except when the need really arise and still live up to the expectation with mancity and other top 4 team in EPL and if that is the case!

I see Milan Acquiring Roberto Mancini or De zerbi, might even go as well to probably lure Xabi Alonso!

Conte? No for me because he doesn’t last long in a club and is a checkbook manager!
Motta? No for me because he hasn’t gotten to that level yet and still need to develop himself more!

  12. Why on earth is Zlatan involved with potential AC Milan coaches? If the US based ownership is listening to this fool and not Maldini, then someone needs to buy this team fast! There is something to be said for tradition, history and the ever evolving strategy for playing winning championship soccer.
