Tuttosport: Sassuolo captain among top targets for Milan to replace Diaz

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan might not get to keep Brahim Diaz on a permanent basis and have thus been forced to evaluate their options on the market. In the last few days, the Domenico Berardi idea has gained more steam.

Berardi has been linked with the Rossoneri many times in the past but the request of Sassuolo have always been too high. This summer, however, the situation could be different as the Neroverdi know they might not get more chances to cash in.

According to today’s edition of Tuttosport, via SempreMilan, Milan are expected to sign a right-winger in the event of Diaz’s departure. That’s where the Spaniard has played most of the time during the spring and Paolo Maldini has several names on his list.

Lille’s Edon Zhegrova is one of the top targets but the Berardi idea has gathered a lot of steam in recent days. Nicolo Zaniolo (Galatasaray) and Riccardo Orsolini (Bologna) are also on the list but not the favourites.

At the age of 28, Sassuolo are well aware that this might be one of their last chances to cash in on Berardi, who has 12 goals and 7 assists this season. Milan are willing to spend €20m on Diaz, so the price tag will have to be roughly the same.

  1. Say whatever you want about Berardi but he is averaging 14 goals and 10 assists per season over the last 4 years in serie A.
He’d be 29 by the time the season starts, so if Milan can get him for around 20 mil he instantly improves the team. Plays in the same system in Sassuolo, home grown and we can finally have someone that can take set pieces instead of watching Tonali and Bennacer attempts that are more likely to end up with Milan conceding a goal on the counter than Milan scoring.
Wouldn’t take Zaniolo even if they pay Milan to sign him.
I like Orsolini too but Berardi would be my first choice

    1. I’m not a huge Berardi fan – especially not at 35M quoted for him last summer. BUT for 15-20M – and given our lack of budget and lack of other options – although and older player – I would take him over Orsolini. Let’s face it players like Asenio, Ziyech, Zaniolo, are not coming. So for a fee of 15-20M I would sign Berardi. Definitely and upgrade over what we have. He’s not a dynamic player but he’s solid all around and for 15-20M hard to find a better established consistent player (at least in Serie A) then Berardi. At least he would give defenses in Serie A something to think about on the RW.

IF only we could swap Pobega and maybe some cash for SINGO – then we’d have a more balanced right side of pitch (Berardi/Singo) to go with Leao/Theo on the left.

  2. I’ll believe it when i see it because berradi is propably worth more than 20 mil to sassuuolo as he is their most prolific playeri n goals and assists year after year and basically is the difference for them whether they play in seria a or serie b, He is also their captain so i dont think this transfer would be likely at least not at that sum.
20 mil would be a great deal nevertheless.

  3. Saelemakers is better as LW than RW , leave him as backup for leao, bring berardi as main rw,leave messias as backup for berardi, get rid of rebic, its not that hard to do

  4. A great signing. Well worth 20m. He would immensely improve s on the right.

If we can get him, and then get Tielemans and Kamada on a free, that would be a good window.

Also, for the right, i heard Mason Greenwood is going cheap. On the pitch, a very good player. How do people feel about him signing? BTW he’s not been linked, it was just a thought….

  5. We have Leao on the left, it’s not clear wether Diaz is going back or not. Then we should go back to Angelo Gabriel if Diaz leaves. He’s a play maker both no. 10 or right wing. Berardi is good too. Don’t even think of Greenwood. He might be cheap but all we need is value.

  6. All of you make sense, but our blind owners look in the opposite direction. They will be looking for cheap players hoping they will turn out good. Set pieces have been our great problem when smaller clubs sit back and defend. Let’s see who M&M will finally buy. Let’s see whether they have learnt or not.

  7. Agree 1000%. Hes typical symbol of the club so he can go up mentality his teammates. At least if he joint to milan, he never scores again VS milan. Hehehe

  8. 2 seasons too late

Orsilini is the new Berardi, we should get him or the boy from Lile, Edon Zhegrova, could have the ‘Kava’ effect for us

  9. Dismissive of a talent like Zanilo, the only Italian any way close to him skill wise is Chiesa.

For me Zanilo, SMS and Hojaland would be pur dream sighings

  10. Berardi is overrated. If he was good enough to help AC Milan, then he wouldn’t still be playing in Sassuolo during his peak years as a footballer. Players from that club are amazing ONLY in Sassuolo. When they leave it is clear for all to see that they do not have what it takes to play at the top level.
If they are seriously considerign Berardi for 20 million, I’d definitely prefer we got Orsolini as he is a much better fit for Milan’s style of play and is two years younger.
