Vitiello: Four ‘quality’ signings planned by Milan – two ‘senators’ will depart

By Oliver Fisher -

As we enter the final stretch of the 2023-24 season, more clarity is beginning to emerge regarding the business that the AC Milan management will do.

One things that seems unknown at this point is who the squad will be working under, because the Milan leadership appear to be rethinking their decision to hire Julen Lopetegui as the replacement for Stefano Pioli.

The list of candidates has once again been consulted and the process has been reopened, with the likes of Thiago Motta, Roberto De Zerbi, Paulo Fonseca, Sergio Conseicao and Ruben Amorim once again now circulating as possible options.

While all of that bubbles away in the foreground, in the background Geoffrey Moncada and his team will no doubt be plotting the purchases that are needed to improve the squad and replace outgoing players.

Antonio Vitiello provided updates on both fronts during his latest editorial for MilanNews, starting with the incoming market and then providing some confirmations on exits.

“Milan will make four signings in the summer to strengthen the squad and from what we understand they will be good quality signings,” he said.

“It won’t be another window with 10 signings, but rather a lower number with higher quality. A strong striker will arrive, and we insist that everything will be done to get Zirkzee. A midfielder with more defensive characteristics [will arrive], a central defender and also a right-back is being eyes.

“In a few days both Giroud and Kjaer will say goodbye to Milan. Two senators from the dressing room, players who have had a specific impact in recent years.

“If Milan returned to winning the Scudetto two years ago they also owe it to these professionals. However, the time has come to move on, also for age reasons, but there will always be respect for Simon and Olivier.”

    1. Unless we manage to make a permanent deal with Real Madrid, there is no point in trusting a player who will eventually leave the club if he turns out to be good.

  1. yossouf fofana
    khephren thuram
    lutsharel geertruida
    jonathan david or santiago gimenez
    kevin danso
    giorgio scalvini
if they sell maignan or/and theo bennacer then you reallt gonna need
    Restes GK
Milos Kerkez LB with Juan Miranda
and benna with thuram fofana duo that express benna very well together

  2. Well thats a good plan. You dont even need the RB. You still have Calabria and Kalulu plus Jimenez. Focus on the other positions and a good Coach.

  3. New Striker, DM and CB make sense, RB maybeee… that said who’s leaving?

We still have 4 center backs (Thiaw, Tomori, Gabbia and Kalulu), there’s no way we’d get another center-back without selling

In midfield, we have 6 midfielders for two spots (Bennacer, Adli, Pobega, Rejnders, Musah, RLC). If we’re getting a starting level DM, at least one CM needs to leave .

In RB we have Calabria, Florenzi, Terraciano (and Kalulu and Jimenez). Ok Florenzi and Jimenez can serve as Theo deputy, and theoretically Terraciano can serve as DM(maybe?) as well.
That said at RB we’re still way overbooked unless we assume that Calabria won’t renew and will be sold in the summer window… There were rumors in 2023 of Real Madrid looking to buy him in summer of 2024… that said, I think Calabria has market for teams looking at a defensive right-back (at least 15-20 million)

  4. I believe AC Milan has the platform to build on already; what the Management needs to do to balance the team is just few tweaks and changes to the team:
    1. AC Milan don’t need another Centre Back, if the template of the project is being followed so as Kjear is leaving, Simic should be promoted to the first team and Jiminez should also be promoted to cover both flanks together with Teracciano while retaining Calabria for squad registration and releasing Florenzi after the expiration of his contract. I believe with a manager like Motta AC Milan defence will become a wall with better materials as against the Bologna materials.
    2. The midfield is solid as it is, with just an addition of one defensive minded creative midfielder and promotion of Zeroli from the Primavera and Adli back to the offensive half of the pitch.
    3. The attack too should remain the same apart from replacing Giroud with Zirkzee and keeping Jovic beyond this season.
Conclusion, if Cardinale and his cohorts progress along with the precepts of the project by buying young players full of potentials and injecting them into the first team as previously projected by Jerry and his team if they really want to cut costs. And the project should be led by a strong believer of young players and a charismatic tactical genius who is not afraid to play the Milan way. So the money supposedly meant for quality Centre Back should be channeled into purchasing of young fifteens year old with huge potentiality that would be ready in three years for Second team before consideration for first team.

  5. We are in a dired need of 2 CM and offensive midfielder, we can’t keep up with Leao and Pulisic they screw up in high stakes match, also neither RLC – REINDJERS-MUSAH are reliable midfielder

    1. Reijnders is good player but pioli played him out of position he is offensive minded player not defensive player he needs good DM next to him to attack more
