Vitiello: Zirkzee, Sesko, Gyokeres and more – Milan continue work on striker signing

By Oliver Fisher -

While waiting to see who will be the next head coach, the AC Milan leaders are also working on the striker that will come in and lead the line hopefully for years to come.

Given that Olivier Giroud will depart the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, a new centre-forward is required who can inherit the No.9 shirt and replace the Frenchman’s goals, if not even better the tally.

According to the latest from Anto Vitiello, Milan are working on the striker of the future and there will be a ‘significant’ investment made to sign a player, one that has been delayed for years now.

There are ‘continuous contacts’ over Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee, with the Rossineri having been working for months to find an economic solution that could satisfy everyone.

There is also Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig on the list, a forward who is different in characteristics to Zirkzee, but someone that the management really like because of his potential.

Also of interest are Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP and Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord, but those are ‘complicated’ options due to how much each would cost and the strong competition from other clubs around Europe.

  1. We need proven goal scorer, not a “big potential” player. I wouldn’t go for Sesko, as we have seen on multiple occasions that CF’s from different leagues have hard time adapting to serie a, and we need good CF now. I would go for Zirkzee by any means and get good LW as replacement for Leao and sell Rafa. Yesterdays game proven that he has no interes in playing so cashing in on him could be benefitial. Unless new coach knows how to get best out of him.

      1. Overall the choice of striker should also correspond to the system, a 4-3-3 lends itself more to a playmaking striker, a 4-2-3-1 can easier support a more pocher-ish type.

        1. IMO Sesko is suitable for both systems. Whatever game strategy one does choose, the main element a number 9 needs to have is targeting and shooting. Zirkzee would be more of a false nine than a proper centre forward.

  2. I don’t think we’ll get any of these. United arsenal and Chelsea are all likely to invest in a striker, plus there’s the likelihood of Motta to Juve…

Personally I think we are in the realms of Jonathan David who I like, Scamacca who I also like or perhaps a departing Vlahovic

    I could be wrong though

  3. Gyokeres is waay to expensive (he has scored a lot of goals but only one season…), Zirkzee is good but no way we will pay 60+million (not worth spending that much on a player who hasn’t shown anything yet).
I hope we will sell useless Leao a bring a decent player.
