World Cup squads and Piemonte departs: News about the AC Milan Women

By Steph Insixiengmay -

It’s been a busy offseason for the AC Milan Women already with a fair bit of player movement, and with nations gearing up for the Women’s World Cup.

Here’s the latest news about the team…

Italy has announced their squad for the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The only AC Milan player to have made the squad was Laura Giuliani.

The shock omissions were Valentina Bergamaschi – who played a pivotal part in Le Azzurre’s 2019 run – and Martina Piemonte. Piemonte even reacted with surprise on Instagram, saying that she never ‘expected such an exclusion‘.

Italy will play their first game of the tournament against Argentina on July 23rd.

Speaking of which, Martina Piemonte has announced her departure from Milan. As per SempreMilan, her most likely destination will be in England.

Giuliani might not, in fact, be the only Milan player to play for Italy at the World Cup. As per SempreMilan’s Luca Maninetti, Valentina Cernoia has completed her medicals for the team.

All that’s missing now is a formal announcement. Cernoia is a lifelong Milanista and even confessed to being one while playing for Juventus.

The experienced midfielder would be a welcome reinforcement for the Rossonere’s midfield.
