Zirkzee fuels Milan rumours with admission about playing at San Siro

By Oliver Fisher -

Joshua Zirkzee has admitted that the highlight of his career to this point has been playing at the San Siro, fuelling links regarding a potential move to AC Milan.

There seems to be no doubting that Zirkzee will be the hot topic of the summer transfer window in Italy as he continues to showcase all of his talent with goals, assists and an extraordinary ability to make his team play better.

Zirkzee gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport’s weekly magazine Sportweek in which he spoke at length about his career to this point and his aims for the future, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“I was lucky enough that God gave me a gift: playing good football. And I don’t want to waste this talent. I’m convinced that he has a plan for me,” he said.

“My creativity comes from street football, where I played with friends. In Holland it is a value: every neighbourhood has a Cruyff court, like basketball courts in America.

“At the Bayern Campus they pampered us. We were a group of noisy teenagers and it wasn’t easy to manage, but I was really happy there.

“Then from one moment to the next I found myself in the dressing room with players who until the day before I had been using the PlayStation.

“I was lucky enough to find a great person, Thomas Muller, who helped me a lot to get into the first team. And when I saw my dad happy in the stands after his first goal in the Bundesliga it was a truly satisfying moment.”

When it comes to the Italian championship, Zirkzee has no doubts about where has been the best stadium that he has played at.

“San Siro is a fantastic stadium: playing well there, against Inter or Milan, is the best.”

As a reminder, Calciomercato.com reported earlier today that Milan are already testing the waters with Bologna to understand their asking price and what the conditions of a potential negotiation might be in view of next season.

Directors Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio are ready to offer Lorenzo Colombo as a €15m counterpart to get Zirkzee, who the Rossoneri think will command an offer of around €45-50m.

  1. Bologna won’t take Colombo and his value is no more than €2-3 million at best. Zirkzee is going to cost €40 million. He’s worth it.
