AC Milan Primavera boss Ignazio Abate and two of his players have reacted to the 1-0 victory of Rukh Lviv in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday night.
In comments to Milan TV after the game (via Milan News), the coach stressed the importance of the team not giving up as they have tough games coming up. The Rossoneri are now into the quarter-final of the UEFA Youth League where they will face either KRC Genk or Atletico Madrid.
“The season has many positive aspects. In Europe the boys always manage to give us incredible emotions; let’s not forget that in Europe the age gap decreases because only 3 2003s can play. But we are afloat, we must not give up. Now we have 4-5 very difficult games in the championship because they can lift us up in the standings,” Abate said.
“It was a very physical game, but we knew that. We proposed football, playing the ball from behind and we had important chances. I’m happy, there’s confidence and enthusiasm. I tell the boys that they should enjoy it, that they should cheer: living moments like that gives you self-esteem and makes you have more confidence in your means.”
The captain of the Primavera side, Andrei Coubis also spoke to the press after the victory which featured an 85th minute winner for the Daivolo. He talked about overcoming the injuries he has dealt with this season, as well as the importance of the goalkeeper.
“I had a long injury, it was difficult to stay close to the team being off the pitch. I am very happy to be back playing. Today I couldn’t leave the team with 10 despite some small problems,” he said.
“The strength the team has is immense, we are building a family that often leads us to victory in Europe. In front of goal there is room for improvement, but if you don’t concede a goal, it means that the rehearsal at the back was perfect. Obviously we must also thank the goalkeeper, Lapo Nava, who sometimes shows his balls.”
The other player to speak to the press after the game was match-winner Kevin Zeroli who was reportedly being scouted by clubs in England and Germany during the game.
“Great emotion, I’m very happy with this first goal in Primavera. I’m delighted. We played a great team game, we must try to have this Youth League form in the league as well. I dedicate the goal to my family, who are always close to me,” Zeroli said.
Coubis is ready for the first team. He’s a beast, the perfect modern footballer.
