Abraham happy to contribute to Milan win: “I thought I should be the MVP!”

Tammy Abraham has become the latest to suggest Rafael Leao doesn’t know how good he is, while insisting AC Milan can get a top eight finish.

The game started as Paulo Fonseca probably would have asked for as Christian Pulisic gave Milan the lead after some nice work from Tammy Abraham, but Slovan didn’t make things easy as Tigran Barseghyan equalised.

The second half saw Rafael Leao get things back on track with a lovely finish to make it 2-1 and then Tammy Abraham added a third. Things are never simple with the Rossoneri though, and Slovan got themselves a goal back a minute away from the end of normal time.

Nonetheless, the end result was a 3-2 victory and three points, which are very useful in terms of pushing the team towards a top eight spot, which must be the target given the games to come.

Abraham spoke to both Sky and Milan TV at the end of the game to assess a rollercoaster encounter, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

How did the game go?

“I’m happy for my team, I thought I should be the MVP! I’m joking. Every time I’m on the pitch I want to help, today I succeeded.”

Are you aiming for the top eight?

“Of course, we want to do well in this competition. We lost the first two and now we are on a streak. We want to do our best and try to go as far as possible.”

What kind of player is Leao?

“Very important for us, I don’t think he knows how good he is. He can win games by himself, when he’s on the right day he’s unstoppable.”

Milan were made to sweat for the win…

“We knew it wouldn’t be an easy match, also because in the Champions League it’s never easy to play away. I’m happy with the victory, the goal and the assists.

“It is very important for me and my teammates to score, I am a guy for whom it is very important to help the team, whether it is scoring or providing assists.

“We did not start the Champions League very well, but now we are on a positive streak of three games. We want to go far in this competition.”

    1. Because the article has a click bait title?
If you read it you see he says I’m joking after that sentence..
Tho nobody could say anything if he was given the mvp title. Twas earned

  1. If he watch the game again. He could do much better to be called mvp. Hes still nowhere near giroud in term of agresssion in the box and finishing but yes i think with the dummies and asist he made he starting to make a good impact. Is it me or i feel like the team is competing each other. For example there are 2 times when camarda was open but they dont pass the ball to him. One from leao but we can always excuse him when hes on the ball. But one chance with rlc just holding the ball (hes an amf anyway not a striker) and it feels like he didnt want to make the final pass to the kid. Poor kid camarda, hes only have 20 minutes and not playing with primavera or futuro except the national team. It really didnt help his growth

  2. He wasn’t really joking.
Tomori and Abraham have too much ego and no character.
It’s my opinion. No matter what, they have to be replaced with more mature personality type players

  3. He is right that he should have won the MVP. No, he wasn’t joking.

In my ratings, I gave him the highest score. He participated in all three goals. Build up, assist, score. You can’t ask a forward for much more than that. Without his participation we’d have lost the game. Well, yeah, that’s a MOTM contribution.

However, saying so is narcissistic, disruptive and causes locker room problems.

Rafael Leão earned the MVP official trophy. Was it deserved? No, Rafa did well of course, scoring too, but Abraham did better. But that’s not something that Abraham himself should be saying. Bad form.

  4. Shouldn’t have gone to Leao, should have gone to Abraham. Sometimes I’m not sure if the people picking the MOTM have much sense. They don’t realize had Tammy not dummied that ball Leao doesn’t score, and that’s basically why Leao got it because he scored. I don’t recall Leao doing much anything else. It’s like they decided to give it to Leao just for being Leao and it’s not the first time this has happened. All that being said, Tammy had his good game, learn to be an aerial threat and then come back. My god he is the opposite of Giroud. Cmon Tammy you can learn how to use that height
