AC Milan and Monza to wear special patch during Berlusconi Trophy

By Oliver Fisher -

On Tuesday evening, Monza and AC Milan will face off in the first edition of the ‘Silvio Berlusconi Trophy’ at the U-Power Stadium.

The match kicks off at 21:00 CEST and will be shown live on Canale 5 in Italy and on Mediaset Italia abroad, and it will take place in front of a sell out crowd in Monza as the two clubs come together to celebrate their former owner and president.

As the official website confirms, the two teams will take to the pitch wearing shirts that feature a special patch, which will then be put up for auction at matchwornshirt.com once the game starts.

All proceeds will go to Fondazione Milan in order to support the project in Emilia-Romagna, which is set to redevelop a training pitch and a playing field at AC Solarolo, which has around 100 members, 80 of whom are youth players.

Milan president Paolo Scaroni said: “The Silvio Berlusconi Trophy is a fitting homage to Silvio, who always loved the Rossoneri.

“With his passion and determination, he built the legend of this club on a global level. I would, furthermore, like to thank Monza for agreeing to raise funds for Fondazione Milan’s project in Emilia-Romagna.

“It is a gesture of generosity and support to these youngsters, which President Berlusconi certainly would’ve appreciated and shared.”

Adriano Galliani, the CEO of Monza: “Silvio Berlusconi is part of the history of both clubs, and so the creation of the Silvio Berlusconi Trophy is the natural consequence of that.

“We couldn’t not celebrate and remember our beloved President. His love for these teams, his ambition for success at both clubs, his passion to make them unique: this deserves to be honoured.

“The shirts worn by the players in the first edition of the trophy will go down in history, and we hope that, with the support of Fondazione Milan, they can be put to good use in order to give the young people of Emilia-Romagna back the sporting facilities necessary to play and dream again.”
