AC Milan Women 0-1 Como: Rossonere toothless in smash-and-grab defeat

AC Milan Women suffered another league setback on Sunday as they were beaten 1-0 by Como at the PUMA House of Football on matchday 10.

It is the same score as it was on opening day between the two sides, as the team from the Lago edged this one as well to begin the return round of fixtures. This time, it was Kerr’s first-half goal that decided the match, which came as a result of the only defensive error that the Rossoneri made all game.

It was a bit of a smash and grab from the away side in a game that was overall largely devoid of excitement. The two sides had been level on 13 points ahead of kick-off and the guests, following tonight’s result in this six-pointer, overtook the Rossonere to move into fifth.

There’s still a long way to go, so there is plenty of sports betting to do, but Milan will need an upturn in form and they need it soon. What will worry Suzanne Bakker is how toothless her side were up front for the second straight game, following a decent run before that.

The coach’s reaction

Bakker was interviewed by Milan TV following the defeat against Como, and she admitted some frustration at not being able to get a result.

“We did well in the second half. The build-up was good and we were in the final part of the pitch for a long time, and I think we can do better in that area to create more chances,” she said.

“We did it in the first half, even if we were offside at times. We tried to find space behind the last line, but sometimes one of the players makes a run in behind, an opponent follows you and then you have to make another choice. This is part of knowing how to read the game and we can improve on that. We are really disappointed with the result.

“On one occasion the understanding between the goalkeeper and the defence was not good and they found the goal, and today that was enough for them. Obviously we are disappointed with this match, it was an important match.

“But next week there is another match and there are many others to play, and that is what I told the team. Tomorrow we will analyse the match and then we will start preparing for the next one against Fiorentina.”
