AC Milan Women fall to Racing Louisville in the Women’s Cup – the highlights

The AC Milan Women lost to Racing Louisville 2-0 on Wednesday as goals by Nadia Nadim and Wang Shuang sealed the Rossonere’s fate.

The match was characterized by the Rossonere playing a rather odd formation with Asllani being played out of position.

As Milan themselves note, the hosts started strongly and took the lead through a corner in the 13th minute when Damelo’s cross was met by a header from Nadim at the front post.

The Rossonere fell two goals behind soon after in the 24th minute as McDonald burst down the right wing and crossed the ball into the middle where Árnadóttir’s rebound ended up at the feet of Wang who hit it first time past Giuliani.

The first chance for the Rossonere came in the 39th minute when Kamila Dubcová’s right-footed shot was blocked by Lund, while the interval came as a wake-up call for Ganz’s team who fought their way back into the game as Asllani saw her header once again stopped by Lund after the Swede played a one-two pass with Thomas.

Milan were a lot tighter at the back conceded few chances in the second half as their change in formation slowed down the pace of the game.

In the closing stages the Rossonere produced another couple of chances as some excellent defending denied Piemonte in the 81st minute, then a miraculous save from Lund kept out a right-footed shot from Thomas.

Milan will play their final game of the competition this Saturday against Club America and kick-off time will be at 22:00 CEST. Once the tournament ends, they’ll officially depart the United States to head back to Italy for the start of the Serie A Femmiile season.
