Andy Diouf of FC Basel

Agent admits Milan scouted midfielder before RC Lens move was sealed

The agent of Andy Diouf has admitted that AC Milan expressed an interest in signing his client before he decided to join RC Lens.

Diouf played for the youth teams of Paris Saint-Germain and Boulogne-Billancourt before joining the Stade Rennais academy in 2015. He made his professional debut for them on 9 May 2021 but struggled to get much playing time.

Last summer, Diouf joined Basel in Switzerland on a season-long loan with an option to buy, where he made a whopping 57 appearances across all competitions and racked up 10 goal contributions.

They used their option to buy in May but made the decision to sell him on for a profit fairly quickly, with the 20-year-old moving to RC Lens in France and signing a five-year deal at the end of last month.

Diouf’s agent Alfonso Stellittano – who collaborates with SBE Management – spoke to TMW about his client’s move to Ligue 1 and he revealed that Milan were keen.

“We chose Lens for a further leap in quality compared to the last adventure. We are happy with his growth at Basel where he also played and scored in Europe, becoming the best young player in the Conference League,” he said.

“His idea now it was to play in the Champions League and for this reason we chose Lens, a strong and ambitious team. There was interest from Italy, I can’t deny it.

“However, his performances have attracted the attention of many teams from the main European leagues and we can only staying in Serie A, I can say that during the last season he was observed with interest by both Milan and Atalanta.”
