Agent discusses Cristian Zapata’s chances of staying at AC Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

The agent of Cristian Zapata has admitted his client wanted to stay at AC Milan but is now examining other options.

Zapata is one of five players who are out of contract this summer and look set to depart, the other four being Ignazio Abate, Andrea Bertolacci, Jose Mauri and Riccardo Montolivo.

The Colombia international played 20 games in all competitions for the Rossoneri in the last season, with many fans urging the club to offer him a new deal, but his representative Ivan Cordoba has now spoken out about the defender’s future.

“Cristian has always hoped for Milan,” Cordoba told Espansione TV’s show Il Barbiere

“When he stays for a long time in a team and fights for many important things, there are things that go beyond the contract.

“He expected a different attitude towards him, he didn’t expect a contract with the same figures as before but rather the confidence of having a two-year contract, to have stability and to try to do well because he still feels he can give a lot to Milan.

“Now he’s evaluating his future, he still wants and important challenge. He will go to the national team, Colombia needs him, he will do well and surely some important offers will come.

“Inter? At a certain moment we talked about it. Italy or abroad? We don’t know yet, but a player like Cristian can still be very useful to many teams, also in Italy.”
