Mateo Musacchio is likely to remain at AC Milan until the end of the season and then move on, according to what his agent has told Calciomercato.com.
As the report begins, Musacchio joined Milan in 2017 from Villarreal for €18million and after becoming an important part of the starting XI in his first two seasons, he is now at the bottom of the hierarchy in terms of centre-back options under head coach Stefano Pioli.
Something seems to have broken in the relationship between the pair, so much so that Mateo is the only player in the squad who has not yet even appeared for a singly minute this season, often being left out of matchday squads.
The Argentine’s contract expires in July 2021, and his agent Marcelo Lombilla has spoken about his client’s situation.
Could Genoa be Musacchio’s next destination?
“At present there is nothing. Mateo will stay at Milan until July and then we’ll see.”
There has also been talk of a possible refusal of Genoa by the player, confirm?
“Only I am authorised to speak for his interests and I have not had any contact with Genoa.”
What do you think of the choices regarding Musacchio this season?
“It’s a strange and uncertain situation for everyone, I don’t understand this treatment when he gave his all for the team and also played with problems, at the request of the coach and this cost him an injury. But football is like this, Pioli was fired and now he looks like Guardiola. That’s life, you have to wait for opportunities.”
How is your client experiencing this situation?
“Like a professional. Helping and encouraging his team-mates for the most important goal which is to stay as high as possible. He has never created problems in his 13-year career in Europe and will never be different.”
Have you ever talked to Maldini and Massara about a possible renewal of the contract expiring next July?
“No, never. We just talked about football in general. The relationship with the two of them is excellent.”
