Agent of young Ajax duo confirms interest from Milan; explains why moves are on hold

By Oliver Fisher -

The agent of a young Ajax duo has confirmed that AC Milan are interested in both of his clients, as well as Swiss side Grasshoppers.

The Rossoneri’s owners Elliott Management have thus far deployed a recruitment strategy focused on buying young players with high potential and developing them in order to record capital gains on the balance sheet.

Now, it has emerged that Milan are interested in Ajax duo Leo Thethani and Dean Solomons who both look set to leave this summer.

The duo are both 21 years of age, are both South African and have been with Ajax since 2017, but neither have made a senior appearance yet as it stands, with their contracts set to expire in the summer transfer window.

As Football Oranje notes, Thethani has 13 appearances for Jong Ajax, and their agent Jerome McCarthy told KickOff.com that there is interest in his clients from Milan.

“AC Milan is interested in Leo. But those transfers are on hold because of the consequences of the corona virus. They cannot leave the country,” he said.

“It is clear with Dean: his contract will not be extended. But with Leo there is still a small chance. Milan and Grasshoppers are very interested, but are still waiting to see how the corona crisis will develop.”
