The agent of AC Milan midfielder Tommaso Pobega has said that the Italian will be staying at the club thanks to the change in formation that Stefano Pioli is implementing.
Speaking during an interview with Sky Sport Italia (via Milan News), Patrick Bastianelli was very honest about the future of his client. Pobega was rumoured to be leaving the club this summer after very limited game time in 2022/23.
Milan were playing a 4-2-3-1 formation which meant there were only two positions that he could really play in. There have been rumours that Milan are switching to a 4-3-3, and Bastianelli confirmed that by citing it as a reason for Pobega staying.
“He has a long contract. He will absolutely stay at AC Milan, also because, if there will be a change of formation with the move to the 4-3-3, he could have more space, although he also did well in a two-man midfield with Juric at Torino. This year I believe he can be a protagonist. It was a first year of apprenticeship. This year he will find more space,” Bastianelli said.
Whilst there is now an extra midfield spot available in the Milan starting eleven, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has arrived and Tijjani Reijnders is also set to join.
With Yunus Musah also being linked with a move, Pobega must work hard to get serious minutes.
Going from Torino to UCL bound and scudetto winner Milan is a big step, he wasn’t bad last year and he should improve. The whole midfield is unproven, so he has a shot at becoming a starter. And if he’s not the best for such position, he could become a rotation player like Ambrosini or Brocchi back in the days. Anyway I guess we can’t lose him because of homegrown requirements, so hopefully he becomes a major part of the team.
I feel that he gets a lot of hatred but he’s not as bad as many claim. He did score some goals last season (more than Origi) and had some good games. He is one of the few italian players in the squad and he is young. So why not give him another chance
Same people will spit on him and will not do the same when one of the new signings fails and Pobega plays. They will still talk bad about Pobega.
In reality, there is an extremely high chance he will play more minutes than RLC. Just a hunch.
His agent doesn’t get to decide whether he stays or goes. He’s too slow and because he’s slow, he’s reckless in his tackles. If Pioli wasn’t such a coward, he would give a chance to one of the boys from the Primavera. Traore, Cuenca and El Hilali would be far more useful in squad rotation.
We already discussed that point many times. He is not slow and it is just the fact. If you dont watch football just watch the goals he scored. If you still can not understand what you are seeing — I will explain. It is very easy. He run across all field to be first on the ball to score. Get it now?
His stats are comparable to Frattesi’s and both are considered box to box players. He can be good if given chance and in his role. And as someone already said, we now have completely new midfield meaning he can prove himself and possibly become starter if he shows more than the like of RLC. Hopefully.
