Agent reveals background on how Milan snatched Tonali after he was close to Inter and Juventus

The agent of midfielder Sandro Tonali has insisted that his client only ever had eyes for AC Milan this summer when learning of their interest.

Milan pulled off one of the most impressive coups of the summer when they swooped in to land Tonali on a loan with option to buy deal just as it seemed the player was destined to join rivals Inter.

Although he has been slowly integrated into Stefano Pioli’s 4-2-3-1 system, fans are beginning to see just how much potential the 20-year-old has, as he has started in three of the last four games.

Interviewed by Tuttosport, his agent Giuseppe Bozzo commented on the young midfielder’s first few months with the Rossoneri.

“The judgment is positive. Given the moment we are all going through because of COVID and the leap that Sandro has made passing from Brescia to the Rossoneri, to be honest I would have expected a bit of difficulty. In reality there weren’t any: Sandro on the pitch proved to be a Milan player,” he said (via MilanNews).

Bozzo then gave a bit of background on how Tonali’s move to Milan came to fruition.

“It was a 35 million euro deal, far from simple. The most difficult aspect was being able to make the president Cellino understand – who had offers from other clubs in his hand – that Sandro wanted to go to Milan at all costs and that the Rossoneri could only set up the operation on loan with option to buy.

“The will of Sandro, who dreamed of playing with the his favourite team made the difference. Cellino showed himself to be understanding, he understood the situation and went along with the boy’s wish. How close were Juve and Inter? Very. Then, for one reason or another, to leave from Sandro’s will, Milan won it.”

When asked “Where do you imagine Tonali in five years?”, Bozzo replied…

“I see him at Milan, with an increasingly central role on the pitch and in the locker room. Sandro has all the qualities, moral and technical, to become a pillar of the Rossoneri. He was struck by the simplicity, the family atmosphere, and with the scent of victory that you breathe in Milanello.

“Milan is a top club, a point of arrival for any player. For Sandro even more because Milan has been his favourite team since he was a child. What is better than playing in the club you cheer for?”
