Vitiello: Akanji accepts Milan idea – the next steps to make for contract discussions

With a disappointing defeat to Cremonese on the opening day, AC Milan have now started to try to sign a new defender.

Massimiliano Allegri’s return to Milan did not start how he or anyone would have liked. Instead, though, it gives a low to build from, and probably a reminder to everyone that the Rossoneri are not a new team yet.

Instead, the project will take time and some investment, and this is why the manager met with Igli Tare at Casa Milan on Sunday morning.

Since then, there have been several rumours, but the most intriguing one is the request for a new central defender.

Akanji accepts

A few names have been suggested, but it seems that the Diavolo have a preference for Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji, who has recently been in talks with Galatasaray. However, he has never approved the move.

This is where Milan instantly have an upper hand. As Antonio Vitiello, via Milan Matters, reports, the central defender has ‘given his availability’ to the Rossoneri. So, now the parties can move forward to arrange a deal.

Next up, an agreement on his salary needs to be found, but with it being a World Cup year, it is likely that playing time will be very important, especially at a high level.

  1. Good!
Take Kiwior too if we can. It is worth the money to have two defenders who can play in higher tempo than we usually do.

  2. I really don’t rate him as a top defender. I’ve seen him at Dortmund and Man City and he’s no better than Malick Thiaw in my opinion. It would have been nice to get Comuzzo.

    1. Are you saying Comuzzo is better than Akanji ?

All these obsession’s with average italian players the media are hyping to sell at high cost makes me smile.

Comuzzo and Leoni alike are not mentally ready for the pressure that comes with wearing a Top club jersey like Milan… They can only perform for now at their best in a club that is less ambitious

        1. Maybe. Maybe not. He could very well flop and young players don’t have the best history at Liverpool. Just because they signed him mean nothing at this point.

        2. he’ll end-up here next season loan w/ OtB after he bored as bench warmer, remember Casadei, Scamacca, Cutrone, Borini?

    2. You are a terrible human for this comparison. I suppose it’s mostly adult males that comment here but some men nag at everything like a terrible house wife.
      Jezzz!!!

      1. Chijioke, my brother. You’re very correct. One of them is Surely typing another round of rant about Tare’s incompetence.

  3. not a big fan of this , but ill be greatful for 15 m euroes . he makes to many mistakes. but has also the 3 most played in mancehster city last season so it would naturally come. we needed more of an experienced slower person whos more strong in defence , a captain , but honestly were jsut here for champions league ,

        1. Youre assuming he has one. If the player hasn’t been directly asked for on camera by allegri, sure doesn’t back them

  4. “With a disappointing defeat to Cremonese on the opening day, AC Milan have now started to try to sign a new defender….” Meanwhile most of us fans have know for the past three seasons the defence is garbage…

  5. it’s funny because he has worts numbers than gabbia in all the major aspects. In therms of defensive numbers, he is also close to tomori and worst than pavlovic. I know that it matters more in the field than in the statictcs. But he wont be our savior.

  6. Finally. Allegri says defence wins the titles and we are waiting until last minutes. If you couldn’t get the striker at least get proper defenders.

  7. Took them till the last few days of the market to realize we needed a defender??? LOL. Crazy

Considering we only have a few days left – sign him ASAP. Best of what is left and a bargain (of course!) at 15M. Should also sign Kiwior as well.

  8. Okay so Akanji sand De winter in a two back and de winter, akanji and Pavlovic in a three I like this and what is happening with Rabiot are we signing him or not but I guess we’re focusing on Akanji now but this Nkunku thing gotdamn it just took look four hours and then it was a here we go okay so tomorrow we’ll have a here we go for akanji and then also one more midfielder and striker and then we’re done and maybe on more defender

    1. Ahead in what, crucial mistakes made per 90? Lmao. Pav is one of the only players who actually shows up and puts in 110% in this team every game

    2. Ahead in what, crucial mistakes made per 90? Lmao. At least pav wins tackles and scores goals, and actually gives 110%

  9. This would be an actual great capture if they can bring this home. I don’t know how a CB was not at the top of the shopping list having watched Milan last however many seasons…. how is this a revelation JUST after last game?!

    1. I’d love to be a fly one the wall in the strategic meetings between Tare, Furlani and Max.

      Okay 433

      Well, nah 352

      Might look like 3421

      But …

Which of the three is steering the ship?!

  10. Akanji have been great in City and was fantastic in the last championship. He is a level above all our current defenders.

  11. Starting 3 of pavlovic, gabbia and akanji would be solid. De winter is a decent backup, and tomori isnt good enough to start
