Algeria head coach admits to uncertainty over Bennacer’s ‘very rare injury’

The head coach of the Algerian national team Djamel Belmadi has admitted that he is currently unsure when Ismael Bennacer will be back in action.

Milan announced on their official website last month that Bennacer underwent surgery on his right knee in Lyon to repair a cartilage problem, with an estimated recovery time of six months.

The former Empoli man did the damage early in the first leg of Milan’s Champions League semi-final clash against rivals Inter and it is certainly more complex than was initially hoped.

Now, the head coach of the Algerian national team has given an update on the midfielder during a press conference and he admitted that there is a lot of uncertainty regarding the midfielder’s recovery.

“We cannot speculate on Bennacer’s injury. Four, six or seven months, we cannot know exactly. It’s a very rare injury for a player at his age and quite complex,” he said (via DZfoot).

“Obviously I would like to have Bennacer for the next AFCON. However, I cannot stop at that if he is absent. We will work to bring a replacement and if he comes back in time then thank God.”

The news that Bennacer might not even be available for the tournament early next year is a further worry for Milan, who may now choose to reinforce the midfield with a signing.

  1. If there is the slightest chance that Gundogan wants to join Milan they should be begging him to join. World class, a winner and ideal for our midfield, he can play any position in midfield. But he is not under 25 so they won’t even try probably. I’ll predict who Milan will sign in midfield, Ellyes Skhiri from Koln. He of course, is free.

      1. Yusuf why are you making stuff up? He said publicly he did not decide his future yet. His agent also…Just a few days ago…
