The elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Feyenoord has raised a new cloud of criticism around AC Milan, and a report has claimed everyone is responsible.
This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes that the spotlight has been on Milanello since the defeat. Yesterday, at the end of training, Zlatan Ibrahimovic spoke with the team and coach inside the dressing room of the training ground to look them one by one in the eye.
Before taking the floor, RedBird Capital’s Senior Advisor gave Theo Hernandez the chance to apologise to his team-mates for the red card he received on Tuesday, a sanction that has definitely compromised Milan’s qualification mission.
Having let the Frenchman speak and say sorry, Ibrahimovic gave a short but very direct speech, putting the team in front of its responsibilities, without too many turns of phrase and without omitting anything, also because the ‘alibis have run out’.
There are no more excuses and the Swedish manager did not ask but imposed – or rather demanded – a significant reaction from the team in the league. Fourth place is an obligation for Milan in terms of being a minimum objective.
Champions League football next season is essential not only to avoid further damage to the image and the accounts of the club, but also because the future of many of the current members of the squad – and Sergio Conceiçao above all – will be decided on this metric.
The whole team is responsible for the loss! Hernandez is getting the blame card because it is easy! But know it is a defender that attacks. So if you look mentally he will dive if he is desperate to win. If he lost hope in his teammates to create a goal. And off course it was a bad decision he had to stay cool. But for me the biggest blame card should be going to the coach! Why are you subbing gimenez if he scored a goal and you need goals why are you subbing pulisic if he creates the most danger why do you leave leao and felix on the pitch? (Because they are Portuguese?maybe) at this point i would say again just bring pioli back. I don’t know if he still is on the payroll because of his contract but if he is make use of it. We actually now have more and better players than pioli had but the players in pioli his time shined better because he used them better.
You can make excuses for the dive as much as you want but no one – and I do mean NO ONE – can rationalize the first yellow cards just 6-7 minutes earlier.
Theo fcked up and the whole club suffered the consequences. Sure, Conseicao fcked up as well with his subs but that wouldn’t have happened without the beyond stupid red card.
Timo Werner and Kai Havertz were chosen to start over Pulisic at Chelsea by fellow German Tuchel many times.
If Puli senses this obvious prejudice again he will leave Milan. He was the superior player then and is now but he
Won’t let it happen again even though he loves Milan and
Italy.
Spot on.
The board did their job sooo bad when it comes to hiring a coach to the point that Pioli started looking good lol.
Remember, he was expert in making blunder subs in the second half.
You fired a coach that got you second place with consistent injuries to the backline and a weaker team. Yes, you did have the big wins you wanted and an early CL exit. Except that it was in the toughest group and you would have advanced if Leão just kicked the ball in the net instead of showing off trying to back heel it in.
Sorry, didn’t have the big wins…
We finished second because Juve kept Messi up and Atalanta really wanted to win Europa league
No we were comfortably in 2nd most of the year, especially the second half
” to the point that Pioli started looking good lol.”
Pioli is one of the most winningest coaches all time for Milan. Pioli was actually good. Fans and management got complacent and thought finishing first or second most of the time was easy
Yeah we definitely took Pioli for granted. He finished either 1st or 2nd in three of his four full seasons, and often had pretty average squads. Last year we had the group of death in the UCL. And he showed a calm and confident leadership we haven’t seen since.
Leão is a liabilty, a luxury player that doesn’t track back, not good enough in the modern game.
It is big opportunity for the coach and players to keep their job in Milan.
If they catch 4th position, I would be more grateful to team and I would not easily go to sales
If they catch 5th position, I would sell enough for difference between ucl 60 million revenue and europa league 20 million revenue. So in this case sales in region of 40 – 60 million of capital gain.
If they finish below 5th position – than, There is no reason why management shouldn’t do special kind of sale. Sale in terms of selling all overpaid STARS.
