A poor record at the Via del Mare: All the key stats ahead of Lecce vs. Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan make the trip to the heel of the boot this afternoon as they face Lecce at the Stadio Via del Mare, hoping to build on the win they got against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.

Milan have played against Lecce 41 times in their history across all competitions, winning 25 of those with 14 draws and just two defeats, resulting in a 61% win rate. The first meeting between the sides was back in August 1978, and the most recent was last season’s 2-0 win at San Siro thanks to Rafael Leao’s brace.

You can read our pre-match preview here, while below are the best stats ahead of the game…

➤ Lecce have drawn more Serie A games against Milan than against any other side (W2 D12 L20). Milan have avoided defeat in 22 of their last 23 matches against Lecce in Serie A (W12 D10), with Lecce’s only win across that run coming in April 2006 (1-0 via an Axel Konan goal).

➤ Lecce are unbeaten in nine of their last 12 home games against Milan in Serie A (W1 D8), scoring in 10 of those matches.

➤ After winning 11 points from their opening five league matches this season (W3 D2), Lecce have picked up just two points across their last six Serie A games. Lecce have lost each of their last two, and could lose three Serie A matches in a row for the first time since April (run of six).

➤  Milan have lost two of their last three league games (D1), as many as in their previous 19 (W13 D4). The Rossoneri could suffer back-to-back Serie A defeats for the first time since February 2023 (run of three, against Lazio, Sassuolo and Inter).

➤ After their 0-1 defeat against Udinese last time out, Milan could fail to score in consecutive league matches for the first time since April 2022 (two games drawn nil-nil in that case, against Bologna and Torino).

➤ Milan have avoided defeat in nine of their last 10 league matches played immediately after a Champions League match (W6 D3), with their only defeat in that period coming against Spezia in May.

➤ Milan have received 29 cards in Serie A this season (27 yellow cards, two red cards) – only
Lecce (34) and Juventus (30) have received more.

➤ Nicola Sansone has scored five league goals against Milan, a joint-record for him against an opponent in Serie A (five goals also against Inter). Lecce could become the fourth different team with which he scores against Milan in the top-flight, while only one player has netted against the Rossoneri with more different clubs in Serie A (Enrico Chiesa, five).

➤ Rafael Leão has scored more Serie A goals against Lecce than any other side: four goals in four
matches, including a brace in April. In 2023, he has been involved in the joint-most Serie A goals
for Milan (19 – 12 goals, seven assists), level with Olivier Giroud (14 goals, five assists).

➤ Leão could become the second Milan player to be involved in 20 goals in consecutive calendar years in Serie A across the last 20 seasons, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic (in 2011 and 2012).
