Referee Maurizio Mariani argues with AC Milan's players

Timeless Mirante, red card records tumble: All the key stats from Milan-Juventus

AC Milan’s return to Serie A action after the international break did not go to plan as they lost 1-0 to Juventus last night at San Siro.

Malick Thiaw’s red card in the 40th minute of the game largely influenced how the remaining 50+ minutes went, and it was a deflected shot from Manuel Locatelli that ended up winning it for Juve. Below are the stats from the game, courtesy of MilanNews.

➤ Malick Thiaw is the first player sent off in the first half of a match between Juventus and Milan in Serie A since Zvonimir Boban on 28 March 1998 (4-1 win for the Bianconeri).

➤ Since the start of the 2018-19 season, only Sassuolo and Fiorentina (both 15) have received more straight red cards than Milan (14) in Serie A.

➤ Antonio Mirante (40 years and 106 days) is the third Milan player to play a Serie A match against Juventus after turning 40 in the three points for a win era, after Paolo Maldini (40 years, 318 days) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (40 years, 112 days).

➤ This was the first time four US starters were fielded in a Serie A match in the three-points-per-win era (since 1994-95): Weah, McKennie, Pulisic and Musah.
