Massimiliano Allegri has clear ideas for how he wants his AC Milan side to look, and it includes Mike Maignan being one of the leaders.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), before signing ahis two-year contract with an option for another two years, Allegri received reassurances from the sporting director Igli Tare and the CEO Giorgio Furlani about certain things.
Among his priorities is the renewal of Maignan, who he considers to be a fixed pillar of the squad he wants to have at his disposal. After months of stalemate, Milan will reopen contacts with the French goalkeeper’s agents.
Agreement then silence
The parties had already reached a verbal agreement in December for a salary of €5m net per year plus bonuses, but the elimination from the Champions League and some poor performances by Maignan saw everything freeze.

Since then, no new calls had been made, but now the club wants to reactivate the dialogue to overcome the impasse. The new sporting director Tare is contacting the players’ agents to understand who is really involved in the project.
Those who want to stay will have to prove it; those who want to leave, bring concrete offers. Allegri is counting on the core of the dressing room, and Maignan is among the leaders designated to lead the resurgence.
Maignan’s stance
Despite eighth place and the absence from the cups, Maignan expressed his desire to stay and redeem himself. Now he is just waiting for the right call to sign the renewal and start again with a club he feels strongly attached to.
As the club’s captain, Maignan recently posted on Instagram to address the fans after what was a very difficult year on the field.
“My heart is heavy, I don’t know the weight of it. We ended a tough season! Everyone who loves, plays, and supports Milan, we are disappointed. There are no excuses, we are Milan. To all Milan fans, with your support, Milan will always be Milan. SEMPRE FORZA MILAN.”
