GdS: Allegri charges to Naples to scare Chivu – why the Scudetto dream remains alive

This weekend, the Scudetto picture took another turn, and it appears that there may be some belief growing inside the walls of AC Milan.

Indeed, after the loss to Lazio – perhaps even the X against Parma – many believed that the title was out of the picture. That may still be the belief for some, understandably so. However, Milan are not mathematically out of it.

The win against Torino, albeit ropey at points, has pleased Massimiliano Allegri and now the focus is on the game in Naples, with Inter dropping points again.

Scudetto still possible?

As Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes, the Italian wants to charge towards Naples, where he believes his side can make a statement against the biggest threat to second place. However, he believes there could be more.

Whilst he has never stated that the Scudetto is a goal, he has never stated that it wasn’t, even after recent results. It is very much a two-way street. He has never set lofty goals publicly, but he has equally never lowered them.

The 1-1 draw with Fiorentina last night means that the Nerazzurri are only six points away. Stranger things have certainly happened. So, the Scudetto dream might not be dead after all, and his team have already got a pact in place.

Allegri will not allow his team to leave it to chance; they will be expected to push their rivals over the final weeks.

The break

In the meantime, his team are enjoying an extended break, at least until Wednesday afternoon. They have had a difficult run recently, and with no fixtures immediately on the horizon, they can be given a bit of time to recuperate and recover.

Ultimately, he is keen to avoid the team burning out. So, an extra two days off should help them in the short and long term. Indeed, they should be at peace this weekend, whilst those sitting above them may be looking down with a bit of panic.
