This season, AC Milan have played 30 games, and yet they have already matched last season’s points tally. Indeed, it would take a nightmare to not surpass it.
There can be no denying that last season was a nightmare that Milan did not wake up from until it was too late. Paulo Fonseca, although likeable and respected by the fans, was thrown into the fire a little, and Sergio Conceicao never really kicked on.
The pair, between them, only acquired 63 points, and with eight games to spare, Massimiliano Allegri is already there.
Proof in the pudding
As Corriere dello Sport writes, via MilanNews, Allegri is already better than the Portuguese duo. It probably did not need proving, but the differences are clear on the pitch and on the table. A strong leader has returned, and the familiarity has only been a positive for all parties.
At this point last season, the Portuguese had collected 47 points, so a plus 16 there for Allegri, and little needs to be said about their position in the table.
Only under Stefano Pioli have the Rossoneri been better in recent years, and it is fair to say that his project was in a better place than Allegri’s.
Under the veteran, the Diavolo are a solid team once again; they have more points and concede fewer. It is a pretty simple principle, and they may not be done for the season yet, with the Scudetto still there.

Also fair to say that Fonseca may have done a bit better with Rabiot and Modric available to him…
Either way, it’s been a fun season, hopefully we can get that top 4 place over the line.
Agree. No depth I midfield was our biggest problem last season. I know the defence conceded a lot. But that was often because of the midfield not protecting them.
Fonseca and Conceicao definitely had better forwards though.
I would like to have seen this team still have Abraham and Jovic instead of the money we spent on Nkunku.
Both of those players would have been more suited to 352.
All Jovic wanted was a 2 year contract instead of another rolling 1 year offer.
Abraham could have been made permanent for a similar price than what Nkunku cost.
The team’s performance improves when you bring in a better coach?! WHAT?!
So Modric & Rabiot had nothing to do with the improvement? OK… 🤷♂️
