AC Milan were a failed Jean-Philippe Mateta medical away from having a new No.9, but now they are considering new names for the summer.
As Calciomercato.com report, the real objective for Milan this season is to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League, which will bring in a much-needed boost in revenues that will allow the squad to be strengthened.

Kean over Vlahovic?
Dusan Vlahovic remains a top name on Igli Tare’s radar, but negotiations with his agents aren’t progressing as planned. The obstacle of a very high commission – approaching a €20m signing-on fee – is a hurdle that Milan’s internal stance makes difficult to resolve.
The feeling among the management is that Vlahovic will leave Juventus but also Italy in the summer, instead signing for a team around Europe that have the financial capabilities of paying whatever it takes up front.
So, Milan could turn to Moise Kean. Massimiliano Allegri would have liked Kean in the winter transfer window that has just closed. He is the coach’s favorite, and Allegri himself would have even gone all out for him, wanting to pair him with Rafa Leao to ‘create a potentially lethal goalscoring duo’.
Given his characteristics, the manager thinks Kean would be perfect fit. The Fiorentina star is strong with his back to goal to push the team forward, devastating when he has open field in front of him, and has shown himself to be a lethal finisher.
The conditions for such a deal in January were not feasible, but Kean’s situation will be different in June, especially considering the €62m release clause which applies each summer for two weeks in July.
The Italian’s tenure at Fiorentina is nearing its end and Milan plan to negotiate with Fiorentina, because they consider the clause to be significantly higher than Kean’s market value.

Kean is a better fit than Vlahovic.

If Max stays with a front two, then who’s starting on the bench? The article has you think that the ideal fit is Kean and Leao. So that leaves Pulisic on the bench? How long do you think into he looks for. Way out of the club?
Secondly, if Kean arrives, who’s gone? Who stays? And how do you package your strike force?
Well, the problems you’ve just highlighted are unavoidable issues to resolve in the summer, whoever the striker Milan management decide to bring.
One thing is clear, we need a 9 this summer to improve the squad for UCL. What we have isn’t enough.
Switching to 433 or 343 would solve the problem. But it’s not likely with Allegri.
i dont know man… i used to believe it too, but Allegri has shown this season, he can adapt and when possible play decent attacking futbol. He’s a results first type of guy, but he’s been more flexible than i expected.
When? Changing to 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 or whatever in the last 10 minutes of a game when chasing a goal isn’t “tactical flexibility”.

Allegri isn’t giving up his defensive shape for an extra striker unless he’s chasing a game. I do wish he played 433 more against low block teams though.
The issue with a back 4 is personnel. Why are we doing better this season? Because we need the balance of the three at the back. Because Pavlovic and Tomori have shown an ability to transition into midfield when required and Modric and Fofana together have been able to cover them when they are out of position.
We don’t have the star defenders, we have a solid unit but it needs the three CBs to have those strengths. Moving to a 4-3-3 base shape requires a good screening midfielder or defensive full backs, so I’d suggest a 4-3-3 change would be more dependent upon a CB and RB signing than it is a CF.

Kean I could see going either way but Vlahovic is the striker Milan need, doesn’t matter if a two or a three man front he will be effective. He will be like a better Giroud.

Bring in Vlahovic, Marc Guéhi and Julian Brandt all in free transfers and a replacement/upgrade on estu and I’d be extremely excited.
I agree with Vlahovic but Guéhi already signed for City this January. I wouldn’t mind Brandt as such but not really sure how much room there would be for him.

He’d be a good addition, if we do get him. Not the Kean that played at Juventus; his game has improved significantly. If we make top 4, no one has to leave for him. We’ll need a bigger squad for Champions League. If Mateta has a successful surgery on his knee problem, the push for a top 9 will be for one, or both of them.
Front two is the way forward. If we think there is someone who does not fit in the system, he will have to leave one way or the other. Players must accommodate tactical choices, and never the other way around. We don’t play 433 just so everyone is happy, especially with Allegri at the helm. No.
Just follow Mateta’s development after the surgery, he would be the ideal striker for us.
The Fio player we need is Dodo, he would settle our RB issues working with Saelemakers.
Dodo will never come to play second fiddle to Saelemaekers.
I do think we’re trying to shift towards 4-3-3 formation for Europe next season, I do think Dodo is a better RB suited in a 4 man defense.
But Saelemakers is a fantastic team player, so I share your sentiments. However, I’m just putting it out there that we don’t need a stud to lead our attack, definitely not Kean.
Why are we giving up on Athekame already? He started the last game and did just fine. He’s 21 and just arrived from the Austrian league. Like many players arriving from smaller leagues, he needs at least one full season before being fully judged. We won’t truly know what we have on our hands until 2026-27, but the signs are currently encouraging. Save the money that would be spent on a player like Dodo for something else, like a no. 9 that we desperately need or a top midfielder to replace RLC (like Goretzka), or another CB who will surely arrive in the summer (probably Gila) given our expanded commitments next season.
Well, for a minute I actually forgot we had Athekame, but my admiration for Dodo will still make me sit out Athekame on this one.
Not giving up on him though, just my preference. He good, but a RB like Dodo and Theo in my team will always play as long as their attitude is right. That reminds me, I think even though I hate to admit it, I think I have given up on Estupenian already, and I sincerely feel bad saying this because I was super excited when we signed him.
Gila would be awesome as will Goretzka.

Either player would score goals in this Milan team. Considering Allegri is likely to stick with a 352, Milan could probably use both Kean and Vlahovic.
Leao is likely to be next season’s Reijnders, so the Club will have additional funds.
I think Milan should’ve tried harder for Hojlund, and the 9 could have been solved. Or maybe wait for Mateta to recover, but that bridge is likely been burned.
We did try hard for Hojlund. HE was the one who didn’t want us, because he wanted to be in a Champions League team ahead of the World Cup. Too funny that Napoli have already dropped out of the Champions League. Karma.
We could probably circumvent our salary cap and offer him 7 mil pr. year while giving him a hefty sign on fee like 25-30 mil paid in installments and still get him cheaper than what Kean will end up costing as Fiorentina will most likely demand 50 mil or more for their player unless they get relegated. I know what I prefer and it’s certainly not Kean. In the end that stance of mine also depends on what kind of a player Vlahovic will be when he returns from his current injury but I prefer the Serb by several lengths.

Kean is too inconsistent and Fiorentina will want €35-40 million, he’s not worth it. Vlahovic, even with a €10 million signing on bonus and Leao level salary is still a better option.
Moise Kean its perfect choice for Milan forward. He can play as alone striker, as long as the midfielders gave him the ball. If the Florence go to seri B, Milan must do all in. Maybe get the discount 40%. Hehehe
