Allegri explains what Leao is ‘slowly realising’ since his arrival: “A sign of growth”

Massimiliano Allegri has named one aspect that Rafael Leao has improved in recent months, which he believes is a sign of growth for Milan’s No.10.

Prior to the season, many described this as the final chance for Leao. Since joining Milan in 2019, there have been many ups and downs from the Portuguese international, from the unplayable form in the Scudetto season to goalscoring struggles in the league.

And so, Milan have passed the baton to Allegri, whose goal is to make Leao a more productive player in attack. The No.10 has always been very good at creating chances, but the decision-making and composure in the final moments have been lacking.

During the Inter-Milan press conference earlier today, Allegri was asked about Leao and his role as one of two forwards in the 3-5-2 formation. The manager stated that the Milan star is realising that goals are needed to make a difference; nice plays and skills are not enough.

“He’s slowly realising that a striker is valued for the goals he scores, which is a sign of growth,” he stated.

Tomorrow, Leao will start up front alongside Christian Pulisic for the first time in the league this season. It will be very interesting to see the two together from start as clearly, they both have a lot of quality.

  1. Gimenez scored zero goals and this forum was very supportive of him despite a gazillion missed chances and all-round terrible ST IQ, but the posters kept posting that he should continue to play…Leao returns from a long injury layoff and starts scoring almost immediately and many were saying Milan are a better team without Leao!! Unreal.

    1. We’re all eager to see Milan cook with Leao and Pulisic up top together finally. If they can work well together no doubt this is our best attacking duo, and could be one of the best in all of Europe.

But if it doesn’t look good, if they don’t combine well, we would have to say the best attacking form so far this season has been Puli playing alongside Santi. Let’s see how this goes.
