Now that the window has closed, AC Milan are beginning to think about some renewals. Alexis Saelemaekers’ name is near the top of the list.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Igli Tare and the management are thinking about some contract extensions, and the one for Saelemaekers – whose current deal expires in 2027 – could be the first completed.

After two seasons on loan at Bologna and Roma, the Belgian returned to Milanello in the summer with a bit of an uncertain fate. Despite receiving several offers, Massimiliano Allegri made it clear he was ‘determined’ to keep the former Anderlecht man.

The offer on the table

Saelemaekers is also highly regarded by Tare, who is pushing for a renewal alongside the head coach. To convince him to sign, the club are ready to offer a contract until 2029 with an option for 2030, in addition to a salary increase.

Dialogues between the parties will take place in the coming days, but there is a certain optimism surrounding this matter that a deal will be concluded by the end of the calendar year.

Saelemaekers is undoubtedly enjoying one of his best moments. Allegri has put him at the heart of his Milan side and given him a starting spot on the right flank, in the wing-back position he made his own at Roma.

The Belgian is repaying the manager’s faith with excellent performances, such as last Sunday’s against Bologna, in which he also provided the assist for Luka Modric’s winning goal. Soon, he should get his reward.

  1. He is arguably the most important player in tactical aspect. No one can shift between front-middle-back positions as quickly and effectively as he can.

    1. He had 0 interceptions and 1 tackle. I get what you’re saying but Modric is way more important since his defensive stats are even better than his attacking stats…

  2. Great to see Saele playing well. He and Tomori were combining well and now our right side looks very stable with those two working together.
