As things stand, AC Milan will not play in Europe next season, barring a heroic performance in the Coppa Italia. A bleak picture.
With the defeat to Atalanta on Sunday, Milan sit in ninth place, six points away from a European place, and that gap may only be widened with Lazio having a game in hand over sixth-placed Roma. An eight-point gap is in place between fifth-placed Juventus on 59 points, whilst the gap to Bologna stands at nine.
In other words, the Rossoneri being miles off of it on the pitch is being well and truly reflected in the standings, and it seems like the club are returning to the ‘dark days’, with Milan News looking back to the last season without Europe.
Of course, we can look at the 2019/20 season, when the Diavolo were banned from Europe for a season due to breaking Financial Fair Play rules. However, the last season in which the club did not qualify for Europe was the 2015/16 season, where Milan finished the season in seventh on 57 points.
Six points are needed to better that record this year, and the chances are the league position will not be as kind, with the gap already in place. Action is certainly needed.
“Winning is boring…….losing is fun”
Quote: Gerry Cardinale
In Coppa Italia I think Milan will beat Inter, then to be beaten in the final by Bologna.
I don’t think we have a have a chance with Inter, but if …. yes then there will be Bologna and they smashed us
jeri got his main goal, tickets sold Scudetto.
wata shame..
Love people blaming Cardinale here, like we didn’t have a perfectly competent manager that most Milan fans were calling to be sacked a year ago because second wasn’t good enough apparently.
Yes, the board and owner are ultimately responsible and boy have they messed up, but it’s not like they’ve shirked from spending money. We spent a lot this season. There’s an element of ‘voters of Leopards Eating Faces Party’ about a lot of the comments.
Cardinale Red Bird but also Elliott…
Well, they have a lot of money soon… we don’t care.
Just, if I am Italian, is wouldn’t pay tickets.
Why do people continue to show up at matches? Does someone point weapons at the attendants and make them buy tickets?
Many ACM fans continue to show up at the club’s games because they imagine they’re going to be watching Berlusconi’s great teams that ruled the world – not the rubbish that masquerades as the Rossoneri today under Cardinale’s watch. They’re living in the past.
Also, a lot of so-called ACM fans nowadays are just looking for fun and entertainment – not victory. As long as they’re entertained, they don’t really care if ACM under-performs as a football team.
This is the critical premise on which Cardinale’s business model is predicated. He believes that as long as he can milk the cow, and the cow is happy to be milked without getting any football trophies in return, there’s no need for him to spend more than the minimum on trying to improve the team.
Eventually though, without real achievement on the pitch, ACM will lose a significant chunk of its global fan base. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. For financial reasons, Cardinale will be forced to sell his controlling interest in the club and allow a more credible owner to take over.
Redbird out!
“Letting Maldini go was a historic decision, given what he means to the club and his authority. But if we wanted to realize Gerry Cardinale’s vision for Milan, we had to make changes and move forward.”
Hats off to the revolutionary that is Gerry.
If failing to qualify for any European places means Redbird will be forced to exit as owner of ACM, which it has done so much to ruin as a force in football, then please bring it on. It can’t happen soon enough.
Redbird out!
Putting a set of clowns, fools, idiots and donkeys to run and manage milan and then expecting milan to win is too much. Furlani in particular has the brain of a monkey …….
