Ancelotti believes Milan are still ‘dangerous’ despite difficult start: “Lot of potential”

Real Madrid face AC Milan tomorrow night at the Santiago Bernabeu, and it is a match linked to Carlo Ancelotti for several reasons.

As a coach, Ancelotti has not spent longer at a club than he had at Milan, and this stands, even with him being in his second spell as the manager of Madrid. In fact, it would probably take another season or two to reach the number of games that he managed the Rossoneri for.

During his 420-game spell as the head coach of the Diavolo, he won two Champions Leagues, two Super Cups and a Club World Cup, adding to his two European Cups from his spell at the club as a player.

In other words, few come close to Ancelotti from a Milan perspective, and his love for the club is still very clear.

Earlier today, Ancelotti spoke to Sky about the fixture, and what it means to play against the Diavolo – his words have been relayed by Milan News.

What will it be like tomorrow to play for the first time as an opponent in the Champions League?

“A special match, especially because of my past. This is the theory around my career, then there will be the practice with a very good match I think.”

Which Milan have you seen in the last few games? What do you expect?

“They didn’t start well, but they are still a very dangerous team because they have great quality up front, top players. Let’s say it’s a team that has a lot of potential, they probably haven’t managed to bring it all out but they have it and we have to be ready to play a difficult game.”

A special eve for you. Ten days off since the Clasico and after the decision not to appear in Paris: with what feeling are you returning to the pitch? Anger, confidence, sorrow?

“No, the truth is that we are sad about what happened in Spain now, something incredible is happening. There are a lot of people suffering, that’s our thinking. Everything that was last week has passed and left no negative trace.”

Which Real Madrid will we see from an identity point of view? There is a lot of discussion about the coexistence of all these champions, have you thought of something different or will it be the usual Real?

“We have never had a clear identity and never want to have one, we have to try to adapt our game to the characteristics of the players we have and slowly find the best version of each of us. We haven’t done our best so far, but we’re not far off. There are games where we have done very well and others a little less. A little more continuity should be found and slowly we will find it.”
