Commissioned architect reveals he was ‘sceptical’ at first about Milan’s stadium project

One of the architects involved in AC Milan’s stadium project in San Donato, Alessandro Zoppini, revealed that he initially was sceptical when the Rossoneri first contacted him. However, now the story is completely different.

Zoppini was commissioned by the Rossoneri to carry out an initial examination of the San Francesco area a few months back. Speaking to La Repubblica, as cited by MilanPress, the architect revealed that he was sceptical at first, but the area has been deemed more than sufficient now.

“I must admit that at first, when CAA Icon, the Milan consultant, commissioned us to carry out what is called the fit test to understand if the stadium had adequate space, I was sceptical. We knew the area, having already studied it as part of the Santa Giulia Arena project, which had not been finalized. But after having carried out a thorough examination I can say that, although it is not very large, the space is more than sufficient,” he stated.

Milan have started the political process with the city council of San Donato and are hoping to have the stadium ready by the 2028-29 season. Important steps have been taken by Gerry Cardinale and his men, but there is still a long way to go.

On our Substack, you can read our three takeaways from the stadium announcement that Milan made a few weeks ago. The process may be long, but there is reason to be optimistic about the future.
