Samuel Chimerenka Chukwueze of Villarreal CF

AS: Milan to sign LaLiga winger on deal until 2028 for initial €20m fee

Samuel Chukwueze is one step away from becoming an AC Milan player, and a report has claimed that he will join for a figure less than has been initially reported.

As Diario AS report, Milan resumed their attempts to sign Chukwueze last Wednesday and after they failed to land Arnaut Danjuma they decided to push more forcefully to try and sign the Nigerian winger.

It seems the acceleration has been successful too, and now the operation will close for a fixed figure of €20m but with bonuses that could take the deal up to €30m, which Villarreal deem fair for a player who only had one year left on his contract.

Chukwueze will sign a five-year contract for Milan, therefore running until June 2028, and will join an attacking department that includes Rafael Leao, Olivier Giroud, Christian Pulisic and soon Noah Okafor too.

After the sale of Nicolas Jackson to Chelsea and Pau Torres to Aston Villa, in addition to the loan of Danjuma to Everton, Villarreal are continuing with a policy of letting key players leave only if their price is met.

  1. That’s a pretty good deal.
If he flops, it’s 20 million.
If he comes good, it’s 30 million.
The extra 10 million will be well worth it if he plays good and helps the team win

  2. Milannews.it reporting the same thing.

“Secondo quanto appreso dalla redazione di MilanNews.it, il Milan e il Villarreal hanno, in questi minuti, chiuso un accordo di massima per portare Samuel Chukwueze in rossonero sulla base di 20 milioni di euro più 8 di bonus.”

    20+8M.

Just about done and awaiting official confirmation.

  3. OK Furlani, I guess that Harvard business school education comes in handy.
So, basically we are getting both Okafor and Chukwueze for less than 35 mil of guaranteed money. The bonuses depend on personal and team achievements.
    Now that’s an outstanding job.

    1. While sporting wise, the bonuses may seen as highly likely…

Financially, i think bonuses like that dont go on the balance sheet, definitely not in the forecast financial model

  4. Oh man, who are we selling next summer just to cover the bonuses promised to Chelsea, Salzburg, AZ and Villarreal.

Would Kalulu or Thiaw be enough?

    1. none in football these bonuses arent even a mil each and its very specific apps, goals, assist and for example if they put chuk bonuses for example if he scores 10 goals he will reiceve 800k but its gonna only one time same as okafor he has to apps 10 and he will reiceve 500k one time . im thinking they put more money on signing bonus that they have to pay right away to the player but after all of this we dont need to sell anyone

  5. Anyone still missing Maldini? Now we have real business people in charge. Sold one player at a greatly inflated price and bringing in a bunch of promising young but proven players, while also working on offloading deadwood. So refreshing. Now Pioli has no excuse to challenge for the Scudetto and CL last 16. We’ll find out if he’s actually worthy of being Milan manager.
I know he’s already won a Scudetto but let’s be honest, that was more of a failure on our rivals’ part. And the CL semi was mostly the luck of the draw. He still deserves a lot of credit for those but a great manager should deliver every year for a great club.

      1. For my part, I prefer Raffaele Palladino, especially with the incredible work he’s doing with Monza. He’s a real soccer architect.

    1. @ Gary yes we still greatly miss Maldini. If Maldini had these funds to work with, he will perform wonders with it. Budget given to Maldini was 35mil, but these new guys can spend limitlessly and you want to compare both era? You must be joking. With Maldini, Tonali would never have been sold, he promised to build a winning team and kept his promise to the lads by not letting Cardinale bully him into selling his stars, that’s called integrity. The Chinese spent 300mil, what was the result? It’s too early to celebrate. Let’s hope Pioli doesn’t get sacked this season due to poor performances, cos he doesn’t have a Maldini to defend him anymore. You think it will be easy on the team to lose both Ibra and Maldini at the same time right? Then bring in several new faces. This is almost like assembling a new team who wouldn’t benefit from Ibra or Maldini’s leadership, their presence had a huge impact and made the players believe. Pulisic needs to find his form, other new players are all experiments which we pray will click soon enough cos following track record on under Pioli in Milan, players don’t get it in their first season and if that happens with a period of bad performances, which leader will be there to lift their spirits again? We practically have a new midfield, wake up. They need time to know the team, settle in, understand how best to function etc. Tonali didn’t get it in one season, non of these new signings have played in Seria A before so there are a lot of ifs. Selling a starter in Tonali when you know your next starter is injured for the next 6 months is almost suicidal. Coupled with all these, Pioli has been talked into changing to 433 from his favoured 4231. Let’s just hope the experiment works otherwise, Pioli could be sacked by mid-season.
I’m not whining and complaining, just helping you see the other side of the picture that you are probably not realizing yet. I’m very happy with the new signings but I would have loved Maldini to still be present with this team 100% their choices of SMS, Berardi, Jackson, Kamada were not bad at all either, SMS and Berardi know Seria A well and have good numbers consistently, this is much less a gamble than what we have now.
I hope for a good start and continuity at the end of the day. I won’t.get ahead of myself just yet. Left to me, I still want Cardinale out, cos trust me next season one of Maignan or Theo Hernandez will be sold if not both of them

      1. Both actually get around the same budget – the difference is Furlani going creative (and daring) with selling Tonali to expand the budget, but Maldini won’t.

Let’s see what we spend this summer (not including add ons) :

        Sportiello – free
        Romero – free
        Pulisic – 20m
        Reijnders – 19m
        RLC – 16m
        Okafor – 14m

        Total 69m.

        Sales :

        Tonali 64m.

So far he use 5m outside Tonali money.
The other article say we still have 35-40m after Okafor sale, so the transfer budget is 40-45m, Which is about right.

Now if the stadium project also take off this season, that’s just putting the cherry on the cake. And explain the reason why we only have limited budget, and also show that at least, the management are serious.

I also regret about losing Maldini and Tonali but you should put credit where its due lol. Furlani do the job using what the club provides – where Maldini wanted the club to give big budget without selling anyone.

We don’t talk about result of the season, we talk about the summer transfer window – but so far (until the Okafor transfer) we are stronger than last season, get more depth in various position with net transfer of €5m.

Take a deep breath and Deal with it. 🙂

        1. Not fair at all. Nobody offer this amount of money last year. All Maldini had was 35 millions. They missed out Botman because of that. People criticise him because of no sale value. But Tonali who he purchased sold at record fee for an Italian player and with that Milan are purchasing players. Give credits when it is due.

        2. Worth remembering that each inbound transfer comes with various other costs too, in terms of signing bonuses, agent payments and other expenses.

Then we have to consider the impact on the wage budget, which is only balanced out if Origi and Rebic leave.

      2. Long comment with full of sht… They get the same budget but Maldini is stubborn while the others is creative…

      3. Maldini defend Pioli? He is the one that want to sack him last season to replace him with Pirlo while he is the one that give Pioli new contract months before… Irony…

    2. Maldini was a Milan legend. Like Seedorf, Boban, no one is happy with the way he was relieved of his job. And, you cannot compare the way a company owner will spend money when he is directly involved, to when an employee is sent to buy with just peanuts given to him. Milan won the league last 2 seasons because they fought till the end, not because our closest rival faltered. Milan’s performance has been consistent since Pioli came. He deserves full credit, not half, with the kind of players he’s had since he came. We got to the semi-finals of the Champions league not by luck. Napoli was highly rated based on their performance. We beat them; and the two legs were the best games of last season’s champions league quarterfinals. If the team under him was that good, there wouldn’t be a need for overhauling as we are seeing. Pioli has done incredibly well. After many years of scrapping, it’s good to finally have quality players for the coach to work with.

      1. Speak for yourself. Not everyone. I never liked Seedorf as a player, he was lazy and I liked him even less as a coach. Boban was vastly overrated as a player. He was a good technician, but a distant second to Savicevic, who was the real star post Dutchmen.

    3. @Gary. I agree with except for your comments on Pioli. I don’t miss Maldini and truly believe Maldini was part of the problem at Milan especially when he signed CDK instead of Dybala.

As for Pioli, he doesn’t need to prove anything. Since Pioli arrived at Milan he has consistently beaten Juventus, Napoli, Inter, Roma, Lazio and Atalanta.

After Milan loss to Atalanta in his first season he has gone on to beat the top 6 teams in Serie A.

We only loss to Inter because the team was not good enough and it’s hard to compete with a team that’s bringing Lukaku and Brozovic off the bench.

Pioli has also won a scudetto with a squad nowhere near the level of the cost of the players that played for Juventus, Napoli and Inter.

I respect coaches like Pioli because he has done great things with a poor team. Give him the right players and he will achieve more.

  6. @ Coach Seedorf, for the love all that is nice, please make your post short, Maldini made some bad decisions, CDK, Dybala debacle the list goes on. The kind of players Maldini was targeting this transfer was very good. it best Maldini leaves !!!

  7. Both actually get around the same budget – the difference is Furlani going creative (and daring) with selling Tonali to expand the budget, but Maldini won’t.

    1. Good post. I wonder how that 19 million penalty we had to help pay for Leao factored in, if at all.

I wonder if we’ll sign anyone further after Chukwueze and Okafor. We’ll see. I’d still like a CF, because I think Okafor may play more as a rotational player on the wings. And I also wonder if we’ll stay make an attempt for Musah, or just go for Dominguez.

      1. That was it for CF – Okafor. Agreed. More of a backup to Giroud than a starter. But that’s fine. Okafor can cover multiple positions across the front line. Kinda a Rebic replacement.

I think if we finalize Chukwueze and Musah and perhaps swing a Singo/Messias +cash deal we are done until a few sales happen – still need a back up LB. If we can finish these then I will say it’s a solid mercato.

Someone said it best above. Old management favored keeping the core and adding experienced pieces (SMS, Kamada, Berardi, etc…) vs. this approach is to sell a core player and use that $$ to sign multiple players in his stead. We will see which approach is better in time. Still some question marks (health, young players) but I like the direction we are headed. It’s nice when you have $$$$ to spend. And that’s what it was all about. $$$$.

Let’s see if we can now SELL some players.

What is clear is that Pioli needs to now deliver. These are the players he chose so he has no excuses. Let’s pray he does. I think at the very least we will be an exciting team to watch.

Good job so far Georgie boy!

      2. Im sorry if I’m wrong, but Iirc we won’t pay any of 19m for Leao. I remember reading on this site that Lille agreed to fully pay the penalty.

The obstruction is Sporting wanted 45m not 19m, but that has nothing to do with Milan.
