Atalanta CEO fuels rumours of permanent De Ketelare move: “Never had any doubts”

By Oliver Fisher -

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has certainly added fuel to the speculation that Charles De Ketelaere will be making the permanent move to Bergamo in the summer.

De Ketelaere registered two goals and an assist in midweek as Atalanta beat Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia to set up a meeting with Milan in the quarter-finals on Wednesday night.

The Belgian is now on six goals and five assists across all competitions, but above all he has a goal contribution in four of his last five outings for La Dea, and this has sparked suggestions that a permanent move is a formality.

Percassi spoke to DAZN before the match against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico and he was asked whether De Ketelaere must do more before he proves that he is worth the investment.

“We are very happy that Charles is available to Atalanta. We have never had any doubts, he is doing well and we think that he can still improve because he has great potential,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).

BergamoNews recently revealed the real figures of De Ketelaere’s move: a paid loan costing €3m plus an option to buy set at €22m and a further €2m in bonuses, thus making a total of €27m. If he keeps going with this form, the Rossoneri will almost certainly cash in.

  1. Probably we will sell CDK but all I’m gonna say is when a team buys any player the coach and coach stuff have to believe in him 100% without any doubts.

  2. Let’s still give him a chance to explore at Milan, if i was a coach or I was among the coaching team, my opinion is and will be that he should still be given a chance.

  3. I think he could be a great CAM. World class but when a coach doesn’t instill confidence in a player, they will never succeed. A move is the best thing for him

    1. And then we’ll blow the money on someone else….

We will spend over billion Euros in the next decade on players. So a million recouped here and there isn’t really going to make a huge difference.

  4. Another situation we have no control over.

I don’t understand how anyone thinks options in favour of other clubs are in any way helpful to Milan.

Real have an option in favour of Jiménez so we are now developing a player on behalf of one of our supposed rivals.

Atalanta have an option in their favour for CDK and we are in the farcical situation where we are wanting him to perform well so we can sell him….

And there are hundreds of such examples over the past 10-15 years.

    1. Who said that plus Jimenez in 2025/2026 real can buy him back for little over 10m so even if he becomes first eleven player real can easily buy him back. The is that if a coach doesn’t bring anyt confidence to the new players the players will not performed also putting them in the wrong position will not perform well either so yh he could have been 2nd LW and not take okafor Or the system could be different so Pioli could rotate LW to CAM okafor and CDK so yh for here on out I wish any newcomer Pioli brings them confidence and actually believes them

      1. I was being sarcastic.

But seriously, unlike what happens on the pitch where things are on knife edge and incidents can determine outcomes, the transfer STRATEGY is the one area where we should be demanding better.

Are you happy with these one way options in favour of our rivals or do you just love transfers?

    2. Real Madrid are not our rivals, they’re in a different league. We’re in the second tier of clubs, like Dortmund, Arsenal or Atletico Madrid, we’re not serious contenders to win the UCL. Unless Jimenez becomes one of the best 2 in the world in his position, Real Madrid aren’t likely to buy him back.

      1. My god it just gets worse!

        Where is the ambition?

        Where is the pride?

        Where are our own players?

We will never RETURN to Real’s level with this attitude. From fans, from the club, from the media.

  5. with confidence & manager trust he can be a player like John Dahl Tomasson, not much goals/assist but it’s always crucial in important games, always working hard & never give-up even there’s Sheva, Pippo, Rivaldo & him fight for same pos

  6. Sometimes things work work out, sometimes it doesn’t. It didn’t work out for us for whatever reason. Pioli has developed many other players, it’s not like he can’t..he wasn’t able to do so for Charles so we have to let it be.

    1. Yup, as I said for several times, we’ve witnessed far more talented players than CdK being wasted and underdeveloped. There are just too many (both controllable and non-controllable) factors. So, no biggie.

Let’s focus on defeating this sad boy and his team on Wednesday.

  7. No regret here, he just isn’t suited for Milan. At least there won’t be no loss on the accounts if he’s actually bought out. There were number of talents Milan blew and they flourished somewhere else in the past, and there will be many in the future as well. As in every club.

  8. At risk of re-stating the same thing over and over again, this guy is a prime example of people not watching games.

Interestingly the commentator for BeIn’s coverage seems to be able to commentate without watching games. Too focused on stories or following the ball.

Watch what happens every time CDK is forced to his right or ends up there. He basically just stops because he can’t or wont use his right foot. He gets dispossessed, outnumbered or the ball goes out.

The question here is not, and if you were thinking about it, never was whether CDK could be a professional level player. That bar is far too low.

The only relevant question is whether CDK is good enough, of all of the options that are available to Milan, which is a much larger range than that which is available to Atalanta, to warrant further investment in playing time, etc by Milan.

Just watch him play a full 90. I don’t believe he will make it at Atalanta. It is not like they haven’t spent a lot of money on players that haven’t ended up as more than depth.

    1. Dude, you’re writing the same thing every time. Awful player. Imagine, Atalanta staff is not watching the games as well so they will pay over 25M€ for him. Or they want to gift the money to Milan and save them from loss? What are you smoking? It doesn’t matter if you watch games if you have no clue about what you’re watching…
