Athletic: ‘Italy is the likeliest destination’ – Milan among Rashford suitors

Another source has linked AC Milan with a move for Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford, with the club searching for a winger.

There have been a number of different reports suggesting that the Milan management will look into potentially signing Rashford, who has hit a very rocky patch in his career with his boyhood club.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic played alongside a very young Rashford during his time there and he could have a say on things, but a lot seems to hinge on the wages the English forward earns.

Moreover, there are doubts about where he would play. Rashford is unlikely to displace Rafael Leao on the left – his favoured position – and though he can play up front or on the right it might be a case of a round peg in a square hole.

According to the latest from The Athletic, Rashford is expected to leave Old Trafford during the January transfer and at present it is a switch to Serie A which looks like the most realistic option.

“Rashford‘s fall from favour under Amorim, coupled with his public statement about the prospect of a new challenge, makes his situation live during the winter window,” they state.

“However, the market for him appears shallow due to his wages, which are too high for nearly all clubs to afford. It would require a creative solution and subsidy from United. Sources believe Italy is the likeliest destination and Milan are looking for a winger, but on the right.”

  1. Lucky Milan would never pay wages like that so the chances of a permanent transfer are about zero.
As for a potential loan, we can stomach him for 4-5 months. Tho that won’t happen either imao.

  2. Not a really bad option but I’d let him pass. Keep Okafor – a more affordable backup in all senses – Rashford won’t be as motivated with a backup role, expensive and an uncertain future while on loan. Sometimes it’s not all about having the better player there.

Instead get a natural centre forward, a midfielder and a fullback.

  3. Milan need a right back, not a right wing. Rashford is a very expensive backup. Pulisic is in form on the right wing. Seems like an unnecessary signing unless United pay a large portion of his salary.

  4. Looks like everyone here agrees. 🙂 for once. Rashford is good, (or at least for a lil bit showed he can be good) BUT he’s a winger. We have absolute zero need for a left winger. We’d have to sell okafor, Chuck and even Jovic to say Maybe. So, thanks but no thanks. I’d take him for free and if manU pays all his wages. hehehe

  5. Rashford plays in the spot we don’t need an upgrade right at the moment. I think he’s a top player being unfairly scapegoated and marginalised and he’ll be excellent somewhere, but we don’t need him at the moment
