Atletico Madrid president responds to De Paul rumours amid Milan and Juventus links

By Oliver Fisher -

Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has poured cold water on the speculation linking Rodrigo De Paul with a move to AC Milan.

De Paul is going through a very difficult time at Atletico Madrid. In recent weeks, his less than exciting performances have been joined by the controversy generated by a photo showing him at a music event in Miami, taken on a day off granted by the club for family reasons as his father is ill.

The player – who had just returned from his commitments with Argentina – then returned late to Madrid and was not called up for the match against Sevilla. He was part of the squad for the away match in Club Brugge and then for the match against Girona, but did not come on.

In recent days multiple Spanish outlets have linked Juventus and Milan with a move for the 28-year-old, given that De Paul knows Serie A well and they were the two main teams linked before he left Udinese.

Cerezo has now responded to rumours that Atletico Madrid are unhappy with De Paul and that they may look to offload him either in January or next summer, with his comments relayed by TMW.

“Sale? We don’t know anything. Ask whoever says so, because obviously they know more than we do. De Paul is a good player, he’s worthy of Atlético Madrid, we’re happy with him and there are no problems. There are no doubts. He has been a few weeks without playing and I don’t know why: the coach organises the team and decides who has to play,” he said.
