Reports: Midfielder could yet remain at Milan despite OGC Nice interest

By Oliver Fisher -

There is still a chance that Tiemoué Bakayoko could remain at AC Milan beyond the end of the transfer window, according to a report.

Several sources have been reporting over the past few days that Bakayoko is not in the plans at Milan and could therefore depart before the transfer window shuts at 20:00 CEST tonight, thus having his two-year loan deal from Chelsea cut short by a year.

However, Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports that in the last few hours something seems to have stopped. By the end of the day there must be a decision on whether to close his adventure with the Rossoneri early or whether to remain in Stefano Pioli’s squad.

Meanwhile, L’Equipe in France (via MilanNews) are reporting that OGC Nice are looking for a midfielder and for this reason they have been in contact with the entourage of Bakayoko. In the event of an agreement, the French midfielder would terminate his contract deal Milan.

  1. Why ?

Get paid to sit on the bench , sure or have pride and get paid to actually play somewhere.

This should of ended day 1 of the mercato. If he plays we have to pay €15M. Not happening.

  2. This may be an unpopular opinion – but there is some merit in keeping Baka until January. Our new mid signings are great – but they are young and (save for Poegba) have no experience in Serie A. Adli is not a DM and Aster is 19. Poegba so far has showed he still needs time to settle in and grow. That leaves Krunic behind Tonali and Benny. Another experienced player as an EMERGENCY mid or even CB isnt a bad idea. Worst case we pay him to sit bench – nothing new. We’ve been doing it for past 2 years. Another 4 months won’t hurt. We won’t play him enough to trigger his option. Not as if we will use the $ we saved from his salary if we got rid of him on another position/player like RW. Our market is done. By January we will know where we stand better in league and CL – and – will give these young players like Aster time to settle and learn the league and tactics without the added pressure to play straight away. We play like 17 games in one month – so more bodies are needed until the WC is over. Baka has always been professional. Never caused trouble. Keeping him around for another 4 months as an Emergency option in case of injuries, fatigue, young players not ready, etc…) or to play against newer promoted teams like Monza – is fine and gives us extra security. If we get rid of him that’s fine too but nothing wrong w keeping him around either
