Reports: Bakayoko will remain at Milan as the deadline in Italy passes

By Oliver Fisher -

There has been a lot of confusion about the future of Tiemoue Bakayoko during deadline day but now it has been confirmed he will stay at AC Milan.

According to MilanNews, Bakayoko will remain at Milan because in the end the French midfielder decided not to proceed with the termination of his two-year loan deal with the Rossoneri, and the window is now closed.

On the other hand, Calciomercato.com report that Bakayoko did want to end his loan at Milan but the decision came too late, meaning there was not enough time to complete the operation, also considering the involvement of Chelsea.

If the decision have come earlier in the day or in the window it would have allowed the Diavolo to save a good amount of salary, but ultimately the procedures for termination of such a deal in take longer than normal when there are multiple parties involved.

  1. Russia? Or other league that allows post transfer deadline deals. Or he terminates and becomes a fee agent. We’ll still need an additional slot for Dest even without registering Baka.

    1. @IKWYDLS I was looking for you… I replied late in your comment at yesterday’s article so it seems you didn’t read it.

It turn out the youth exemption for Serie A is not U21 as was reported by GdS (which was translated by SempreMilan). The exemption ceiling was increased to U22 since 2018. I had to browse using Italian language to get this info…

It means, Maldini’s focus on signings U22 players (CDK, Thiaw, Vranckx, and Dest) allow Milan to have huge 30-man squad to navigate the busy schedule, even including both Bakayoko and Ibra. Here is the Serie A registration situation:

      Club Homegrown (3/4)
      Gabbia, Calabria, Pobega

      Italian Homegrown (3*/4)
      Mirante, Florenzi, Tonali*

      Unrestricted (17/17)
Maignan, Tatarusanu, Tomori, Kjaer, Theo, Ballo-Toure, Bennacer, Bakayoko, Krunic, Diaz, Messias, Saelemaekers, Leao, Rebic, Ibrahimovic, Giroud, Origi

      U22 (7/infinite)
Kalulu, Thiaw, Dest, Vranckx, CDK, Adli, Lazetic

*Tonali can also use U22 exemption

Note that it is not mandatory to fill the Club Homegrown and Italian Homegrown Slots. By not filling 2 slots among them, Milan can only register 23 players at the 25-man squad but with the 7 U22 players, Milan can have 30-man squad.

My prediction that at least one of the new CB/DM will be either homegrown or U21 ended up true even though I should have said U22 instead U21 😅

        1. Seems the clubs negotiated higher ceiling at that time, some clubs with bad youth sector cannot have enough players. Afterall, Serie A has more busy schedule that require more players than UEFA competition.

Anyway, the registration deadline has passed, it will only be open at January but there are 4 exceptions:
          1. GK change
          2. Registering international players whose registration was delayed due to some issues
          3. Registering free players (must have existing open slot)
          4. 2 additional slot changes (non-GK)

  3. I honestly place this guy above Krunic. And I’m not impressed at all from what I’ve seen from Vranckx. Looks like Krunic 2.0 players who add nothing special. Just short lateral and backwards passes every time they have the ball. And no defensive upside whatsoever.

    1. Respect Lord Krunic. He saved our ass countless times, while this useless sack of horse dung was… well useless.

And you’ve only seen youtube clips of Vranckx, like everyone else, you can’t judge player by that. He is a child playing for a first team in Bundesliga and M&M&M see something in him, so there must be something there. I’m gonna give him a chance before is start taking a dump on him.

    2. I still respect king krunic, he is pioli favourite player & always ready placed in many position. His salary only 1,5m euro nett while bakayoko 2,5m euro nett . King krunic maybe not star player but versatile & dont mind do dirty job like tackle ,cover defense with body while bakayoko doing nothing just training & causing losing vs sassoulo.

  4. SamuCasti left, but the idea remained. Yoko has just one year left on his loan, but we’re not getting rid of Salad any time soon.
