GdS: Chelsea loanee to remain at Milan as Olympiacos move fails to materialise

By Oliver Fisher -

Tiemoue Bakayoko will stay at Milan until at least the January transfer window as the opportunities for him to leave have now disappeared, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan), the midfielder could have moved to Olympiacos who seemed keen on welcoming his services but instead the summer transfer market closed last night in Greece, so there will be no transfer to Athens for the Frenchman.

Milan had convinced the player to terminate his loan deal on the first of September – which was deadline day in Italy – but the Rossoneri and Bakayoko needed to co-ordinate the terms with Chelsea and there was not enough time left for it to go through.

Stefano Pioli has no plans of using the former Monaco man and the management wanted to offload his €2.5m salary, but Bakayoko will now remain at Milan at least until January, when the door to an exit will open again.

    1. I think they were convinced that Baka will be a solid backup and then replacement for Kessie and that Tonali won’t be able to adapt that fast. The 2 year-loan was perhaps more of a financial strategy of purchase.

  1. I really hoped he could regain his form. Inform Baka wouldbe a good asset for us.;his style of play suits our current team.
Difficult for him no having playing time, but there is still time to Jan23.

    1. I think such a dip (or rather fall?) in form, especially when it last this long is connected to mental / attitude / other problems. This guy was good, but Chelsea doesn’t want him, Milan does not want him and it seems it is good enough for him not to play for this salary, otherwise he would’ve already left. I predic he will be in a low tier team in a few yrs time. Until then ppl will try to save him, and will offer him chances. Without having too much details on his background i see similarities to Dele Alli. That guy was also good, then slowly, still at young age he started to slip down. Ppl, clubs tried to save him, but all failed. If Baka cannot fix the thing that broke in himself, then the same will happen to him.

  2. Bakayoko is Maldini’s biggest mistake as a Milan sporting director.
Last summer Bakayoko was let go by Napoli where he was also bad, Maldini ran to sign him on a 2 year loan with option that can turn into obligation to buy for around 20 mil.
Napoli on the other hand went and signed Anguissa from Fulham on a 1 year loan with option to buy for 15 mil.
1 of them is a high paid spectator with great seat
    The other is balling out
