Against Atalanta last night, AC Milan recorded their 10th Serie A defeat of the season, and there are heaps of criticism towards this.
Throughout the year, Milan have always looked a level below their own expectations, and worse yet, below the level of others in the division. Of course, if you are not in the race for the Scudetto, this will be a given, but almost half of the division has been better than the Rossoneri.
It seems beyond probable that the side will finish in eighth or ninth this season, which would be the club’s lowest position in 10 seasons, and barring two wins in the Coppa Italia, this will mean the club will not play European football next season, which is a first in almost 10 years too.
There is one reason above all why this is the case. As Milan News writes, the club have lost 10 games this season (three at San Siro, seven away from home), with the latest coming against Atalanta.
This figure has not been reached since Stefano Pioli’s Diavolo side in the COVID-19 season, but before that, it is a number ‘associated with the banter era’. Maybe it is not to the same extreme, but there are certainly parallels (as we have covered on Substack), worrying indeed.
If something looks like a certain thing, it might be because it is this thing.
To put it more simply, our stats look like they come from the banter era, because we’re already in the banter era.
Facts!! People talk about Pioli’s coaching, but he was the best thing to happen to milan sence allegri. He revived milan, now he’s gone we lost our identity. All we had to do was to give Pioli two good dm’s, to replace kessie and tonali. Smh
Absolutely right.
Pioli wasn’t appreciated by our incompetent management. They believed Lopetegui and Fonseca were better options than keeping Pioli for another year until he finished his contract or get Conte.
But like Ibra said, they didn’t want conte. They wanted another yes man who would accept whatever bs team they were given.
@G Weah I tried honestly and earnestly to warn people about wanting Pioli out. I could never fathom why they would want one of our greatest coaches of all time (by stats/wins) to leave. Matter of fact it went against even Gerry’s own principles (guaranteed top 4 for UCL). It’s been so long since we won anything Pioli was a pleasant time period for us. We were actually doing well and making our mark even in Europe. But ppl wanted a change for imo not good reasons. It’s the constant changing that’s led us once more to this spot again…. pre-Pioli
We wasted our time by appointing Fonseca, then replaced it with Sergio. While Conte is battling for scudetto until the end. Which is the coach that most of the fan base hated.
From what I recalled fans wanted either Conte, Conceicao or De Zebri. Fonseca was nowhere close to being a request and yes I agree we wasted time with him. To appoint someone who had clearly failed in Serie A is inexcusable. Then to appoint another similar headliner made us into a clo.wn show. If we had started out with Sarge it might not have been so bad…at least then I’d understand the gamble. But Fonseca??? Pfft
