Journalist claims Barcelona have closed an agreement with Kessie ahead of free transfer

By Oliver Fisher -

Barcelona have found an agreement with Franck Kessie over personal terms and he should now join them in the summer transfer window on a free, it is claimed.

Kessie said five months ago at the end of July when he was in Tokyo with the Ivory Coast: “I’ll be back from the Olympics and I’ll fix everything. I’d like to stay AC Milan forever.”

However, he hasn’t renewed yet and the interview has come back to haunt him because at the moment he looks like going against his word. The chances of him extending are minimal, and now it seems he already has his next club lined up.

As reported by the journalist Gerard Romero who covers the Catalan club closely, Barcelona reached an agreement with Kessie during talks that took place last night and the operation can be considered closed.

Obviously the Ivorian remain with the Rossoneri until the end of the season and then will start a new experience in Spain, moving on a free transfer. What is interesting is that Romero adds (via BarcaInfo) that he will earn €4m net per season plus €2.5m in potential bonuses, which would be less than the reported offers from Milan.

  1. Can someone please explain why Kessie would leave for less money than he was offered at Milan? There must be tensions we don’t know about, but it seems he is very much part of the team. Weird!?!?!

    1. barca will most likely have to pay a hefty sign on fee shared between kessie and his agent so both will still get more than with milan. Kessie propably has also read the writing on the wall as there now is a large group of milan fans that pretty much hates his guts after his backtracking on his words from july professing that there would be no issues in his renewal.

    2. Because they realized NO ONE would pay him what he wanted. And he already burned the bridges with Milan so he cannot stay either.

  2. I’m fully confident that Milan is gonna be fine and upgrade without you.
But my concern as an African and a fan is that you won’t live to regret this. I’m afraid that you would end up on the Barça bench but it’s your decision Bro.

    If this true then why?

Milan offer you more and Pioli gonna pick you as a starter / plenty of playing time. You don’t need to adapt from zero again.

Compare to Barca where you’re not a guaranteed as starter, less money, and work from zero again.

Oh whatever. Milan will be okay without him anyway.
