COPE: Barcelona and Mendes discuss Leao but Milan have counter-move ready

By Oliver Fisher -

Barcelona are big admirers of Rafael Leao but they seem to have been put off by AC Milan’s determined stance on keeping him, it is claimed.

According to COPE in Spain, on Wednesday the president of Barcelona – Joan Laporta – and the agent Jorge Mendes met to discuss players ahead of the summer. Three Portuguese players in particular were the subject of talks, as Barca insisted that they will find solutions to their financial problems and they will be able to sign top players.

One of the players that was mentioned was Rafael Leao of Milan, who scored 14 goals and added 11 assists last season in all competitions, helping guide the Rossoneri to the league title after an 11-year wait, as the Serie A MVP too.

Barca president Joan Laporta has admired the 23-year-old for a long time but Milan would ask for a large amount of money in order to sell. Not only that, but the management want to extend Leao’s deal with a big pay rise to protect him.

  1. Another crock of sh*t story. Barca is so broke it can’t even register players it signed already or go for their primary targets, but they are gonna go for a player they don’t need just because.

No idea why Mendes is still leaking this nonsense, we’re gonna renew him and he will get a decent pay raise. What makes it even more stupid is that Mendes is not even his manager anymore.

    1. I don’t trust Leao, he needs to pay 16M or something. He basically plays for free for us if he renew, nobody would do that even if he loves Milan. We will see but I doubt he will stay

    2. Whilst true, Barcelona do seem to be obsessively trying to sign players for some reason. And even more stupidly, veteran players on big wages and long contracts.

I imagine they’ll be driving de Jong and his salary to Manchester United to make room for Kessie and Christensen, but no idea how they intend to cheat the books to register more players.

  2. The financial problems that Barça have must be worst in the all big teams of Europe since they cant even register their new players again like in January wen was super hard to register the players they signed in January!

  3. Yeah, of course. They will sign Haaland, Lewandovski, Leao and many more after they come up with a few million to extend Sergi Robertos contract 😂. Then they have Kessie, Apliczueta and Christensen waiting to sign, no money for that as well. LOL

  4. I hope Barca implode with all their transfer nonsense. These guys are the prime example of why FFP need to be reformed.
