Baroni happy with Lazio’s performance vs. Milan: “I gave a signal to the team”

By Oliver Fisher -

Lazio head coach Marco Baroni praised his side for the response they gave during the 2-2 draw against AC Milan last night having lost against Udinese the week prior.

The game started in the best possible way for Milan as Strahinja Pavlovic powered in a corner at the near post to get his first goal for the club in just his second start, and Paulo Fonseca’s men were in control at the break.

However, the scoreline flipped within five second-half minutes. Firstly Taty Castellanos fired in from close range and then Boulaye Dia did the same from an even better position, with both goals coming down Milan’s right side.

Rafael Leao came off the bench to level things not too long after, burying a feed from Tammy Abraham who also looked lively coming on for his debut, yet that first win continues to remain elusive for the Rossoneri.

Baroni gave an interview to DAZN after the draw at the Olimpico against Milan to try and pick apart a rollercoaster encounter, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

Is a draw the right result?

“The team had a great second half, where they pushed hard. In the first half we left space behind but we have to give the guys time to get into the game. The team played a good game today, we have to improve especially in attacking.

“They have a lot of physicality and pace. When you go with a high line you have to take some risks. But this is the attitude I want, today we did something good and little by little we have to do something nice.”

Are you convinced of the attacking approach?

“I gave a signal to the team. By putting the two strikers and a team like that we had to risk something. The message was received but we have to find the balance. This is what we are looking for, however.

“The team is innate in dribbling, we look for it and it must be functional to go and score goals and fill the penalty area.”

Have your team understood the way you want to play?

“We also lost some important individuals but we have an important collective. The team must believe in its own means. To go fast you have to run all together. Today I had important responses from this point of view, I’m happy even if I would have liked to win.

“Against Milan however you must not make any mistakes, in set pieces we knew we could concede something. There were important responses.”

  1. He is happy? Tavares and Castellanos were the only players worth mentioning in the lazio team last night. They played very poorly. At home. Vs a very struggling Milan.
Isaksen was also ok off the bench. The rest? Bleh
